So this is what they have changed. In the original Shiva Purana, Lakshmi didn't ask Vishnu not to kill Jalandhar - she asked Jalandhar not to kill Vishnu. There, she knew that in the event of a confrontation, Narayan would get transformed into confetti. So here, the serial twists it around and shows Jalandhar being favored by Lakshmi, and that too, in a manner to put Indra in his place.

Surya above brings up a good point as well - if Lakshmi is so concerned about Jalandhar, where was she when Jalandhar's mom was killed and he needed help? Varuna was MIA when Matsyakanaya's eggs were destroyed, and only appeared to try and prevent Jalandhar from joining the asuras after the damage was done. Somehow, Lakshmi looks like a more of a bholenath in this serial than Bholenath himself.

Dr Vrinda - it's high time Jalandhar kicked her out of asura-lok: the idea that he'd have to marry her, as depicted in this serial, is insufferable. He did the right thing here by telling her not to expect his support from the devas should the need arise. Jalandhar sounds very prophetic here - ultimately, Vrinda does get betrayed by Vishnu (whether they show that in this serial or not is another thing), in the perennial deva road to victory.

The Director has mentioned there is fiction added in this story & from the time Vrinda is shown Vishnuji's face doesn't seem that happy, this was pointed out by an ardent fan of the show who is not an IF member. Vishnuji's role will be shown, otherwise all the effort of giving importance to Vrinda will be lost.

One more thing I didn't get about Vishnu's argument - yeah, I know it's fictitious, but still...

Vishnu told Indra that the latter was responsible for all the injustice meted out to Jalandhar, and that this time, he would not follow Indra's example and be unjust to Jalandhar. But that begs the question...

What about Vritra & Trisiras? Indra was responsible for injustice meted out to Trisiras, and Vritra too was avenging Trisiras, just as Jalandhar was avenging Matsyakanya. Vishnu didn't have any trouble endorsing Indra's plans to go after Vritra, and even asked Kartikeya to fight the latter. But all that did was make sure that Indra was not brought to justice over Trisiras.

But now, Vishnu wants Indra to be brought to justice over Matsyakanya - the same justice he was happy to deny Trisiras? Somehow, I'm just not getting the CV's logic. Just that Vritra wasn't played by Mohit or another major actor and so it was okay to be unfair to him?

Priceless justice!

While I don't mind a discussion of medical ethics regarding the enemy wounded, I have to ask: why is Dr. Vrinda worrying about the wounded members of the devas' army when the latter had their own physicians: the Asvins and Dhanvantari? What happened to them? Did they resign in protest after Indra's shenanigans or lose their medical license somehow? Perhaps Jalandhar sued them and they were prohibited from practising medicine during the trial? Details please!

You sure? From what I know, she did request Vishnu not to kill Jalandhar. There was still a great battle between them. I believe in the Shiva Purana they reached a stalemate and a greatly impressed Vishnu offered a boon to Jalandhar who asked him to come live at his home with Lakshmi. In the Padma Purana Vishnu was defeated and taken by Jalandhar and Lakshmi appeared and requested him not to kill him (Vishnu). Once again Vishnu offered him a boon and Jalandhar asked him to stay at his home.

I'll check the texts later to make sure but that's what I know.

I think the creatives didn't want to show Vishnu being unable to defeat Jalandhar or worse, actually defeated by him. Hence they had him refuse to go to battle altogether.

LOL yeah they should have shown her reaction and perhaps appearing to Jalandhar back then. There are definite plotholes or at least gaps in the storytelling. 😆
