There is story that Ganga was insulted and she decides to return to Swarga Lok where is is revered as Mandakini. Sagara who is the one of Rama's ancestors does does yagna and his horse gets stolen by Indra ( go figure ). His sons ( saagara ) in efforts to search for it, insult Kapila Muni. Kapila gets angry and turns them to ashes. Thier grand son, Bhagiratha does severe penance and brings her back to earth. Hence she is called Bhagirathi. On the way to kapila ashram she destroys Jahnu Ashram. Enraged jahnu swallows the entire Ganga. Up on Bhageeratha's prayers , Jahnu releases her from his ears. Hence the name Jahnavi. After giving Moksha to Saagaras. Ganga promises to stay on earth till end of Kali Yuga. This is also her Shraap by Parvathi, that she will have to wash the sins of human race. However she also has Vardaan from Shiva that when one bhakt takes his bath in her, it would washe her of the sins.

Mahadev can never get jealous he is above all this maya. He is the ideal husband who trusts his wife completely. He only advised Parvati once in that Minaxi episode that where there is irshiya there can be no love.
