You know her as Sati, the beautiful and graceful princess who stole Mahadev's heart. Luminous skin, doe eyes, stunning smile and it's not hard to believe that Mouni Roy is Mahadev's 'chosen one!' Quite the fashionista, you will find her at Red carpet events dazzling the photographer flashbulbs with her elegant poise but if that is all you thought of Mouni…you would be wrong…so wrong! What you don't know about this gorgeous Bengali lass is that she is passionate about reading - dedicating an entire wall in her room back home to…books and that she is a tremendously talented dancer. One part starlet, one part refreshingly grounded, Mouni Roy shares her beauty secrets and her favourite scenes from Mahadev with Tinsel Gupshup.

TG: You have beautiful skin, please share your regimen with us (morning and night)

MR: I think Bengali girls are just blessed with good skin. I really don't do much and my morning and night regime is very basic. In the morning, I use a face wash, moisturize and use sunscreen. At night, I am very particular about removing all my make-up and just allowing my skin to breathe.

TG: As an actor, you have to wear make-up for long hours, endure strong lights day in and day out, how do you protect your skin when you are shooting?

MR: Most of the times I am shooting outdoors and I tan and burn very easily so, I have to use sunscreen. Apart from that I drink loads and loads of water. Trust me, it is not a myth and if you drink lots of water you will see the difference in your skin in a few days.

TG: At shoots, do you wear your own brand of make-up?

MR: Yes absolutely. I always carry my own make-up and use some specific brands that suit my skin type.

TG: What is the one skin care product you absolutely cannot do without?

MR: I am a complete lip balm addict! I have all kinds of lip balms and I keep picking up new ones whenever I travel. My lip balms could be the most basic ones or they could be the expensive branded kinds. In fact I always carry two or three balms in my handbag and I just cannot do without them!

TG: How do you deal with the occasional break-out?

MR: I don't usually get pimples or eruptions but when I do, I just apply a very basic Aloe Vera gel on it. In fact, every girl should try this remedy because it is very simple and natural. Keep any simple, pure Aloe Vera gel in the fridge and at night apply it on your face just like a mask. Keep it on for 10 minutes, wash it off with plain water and then use your regular moisturizer. Believe me the pimple will subside in no time. Aloe Vera is an absolute must and it can do wonders for your skin. Some people apply ice over the Aloe Vera layer but instead you should just refrigerate the gel and apply the cold gel to your face.

TG: When it comes to skin care and make-up products are you an impulsive shopper or do you research before you buy and try?

MR: I am very impulsive! I go absolutely crazy in Duty free. I know I buy products that I won't use and then I end up throwing them away after a year. Every time I go to a mall and see a Clinique or Lancme store, I just have to stop and pick up products even though I know I don't need any of them. I do think I have calmed down a bit with regards to impulsive product shopping. Recently I was in Hong Kong for a show and just stuck to shopping for some products that I really needed. So…I would like to believe I am not that impulsive any more.

TG: How do you pamper your skin? (Spa treatments, masks)

MR: Honestly speaking, I really don't get time to pamper myself. I don't even go for regular clean ups…I know, that sounds shameful! The problem is that I have only been for clean ups twice in my life and both times my skin turned red and irritated. I absolutely hate going to the beauty salon…so trust me when I say I stick to basics, I mean it! I am big on massages. So every time I have a day off or late call time, I go to a spa close by for a massage.

TG: Your favorite face wash and moisturizing cream? Favorite brands?

MR: No, I don't have a favourite brand as such. I'll either use Body Shop or a medicated brand for my face.

TG: What products do you carry in your handbag?

MR: I carry a small make-up pouch, Studio Fix, MAC moisturizer; I cannot do without my Kajal, a Peach or Plum blush and my lip balms.

TG: What is your magic home remedy? Something your mother or grandmother taught you?

MR: Actually, I have not indulged in this for years but my mother used to apply Malai and Haldi to my face. You don't want your face turning Yellow, so don't use too much Haldi in the Malai

TG: One actor (female - Films, Television or Hollywood) who you think has flawless and beautiful skin?

MR: Sanjeeda Sheikh has beautiful skin

TG: Do you do anything in particular for your skin before an important event, evening, photo-shoot?

MR: No…I mean in television, we hardly get any time. Most of the times, we have to rush off to an event, party or press conference straight after the shoot. So I might be shooting till midnight and have to wake up at 3AM to rehearse for a dance sequence for an event and then make it back to the shoot again. I suppose, I am more concerned about catching up on sleep to make sure I don't have bags under my eyes the next day!

TG: Any product that you absolutely rave about and swear by? (After using this product you have called you friends up and said - Oh my God, you have to try this)

MR: Yes, I had tried this moisturizer by Lancme that I really liked and told some friends about. Oh, I just love the moisturizing cream by MAC and I do use it every single day. I usually remove my make-up with MAC's Oil Cleanser and then use their moisturizing cream which also acts as a gorgeous primer. So I tend to rave about those products.

TG: What is Mouni's trademark make-up style?

MR: I do like to emphasize my eyes with liner or Kajal. I think, make-up is just one small part of the whole deal. It's not just about the make-up or the dress rather, it is your entire aura, your personality, the attitude, the way you enter a room…all those things make you stand out. It does have to be the perfect blend of make-up, dress, the right clutch, matching shoes and of course the right attitude! I always try and keep my make-up minimal.

TG: The best beauty advice / tip that you have received

MR: I like to keep everything very basic and natural so that is my advice to everyone too. Apart from that, a friend once told me that you should try and use the brands and the products of the country you live in. So, if you live in India, try and use a shampoo by Sunsilk etc because those products are made for the climate and conditions of that particular country. Also, you should know your skin and scalp type and use products designed specifically for your type. Thirdly, don't be afraid to visit a dermatologist because sometimes only a doctor can give you the right advice about creams, medications, oils, ointments etc. The expert always knows best!

TG: 'Sati is Mouni' so as a special treat for all your fans, we have to ask you for your favourite scenes from Mahadev…

MR: I have quite a few favorite scenes from Mahadev so I'll just give you a few of them…

One of my favourite scenes has to be the first time Shiva rescues Sati from Vritasur. That was the first time Mahadev rescued Sati

Another scene that I really liked was one where I thought Sati looked very ethereal. After Mahadev rescues her from Vritasur, Sati returns to the palace and her ladies in waiting help her clean up. That is when she discovers Shiva's Tripund sign on her arm. During that scene, I was wearing this thin White Sari kind of a robe and I actually made that robe / dress on the set just before that scene was shot. I got hold of a costume and cut it into three parts. The first part of course was draped as my blouse, the second part I wore as the long skirt so that became the bottom half of the sari and then the remaining cloth was used as the dupatta. I loved the theme that was playing in the background while my ladies in waiting bathed me and did my shringaar. In fact that came to be known as 'Sati Theme'

The third scene I really liked was when Sati was going to a river to get some water and Mahadev starts playing the Tanpura. Sati is completely mesmerized and starts dancing in front of him. Actually that entire scene was very hard because we had about seven stages of dialogues that had to be shot within half an hour.

I loved the entire sequence where Sati returns to her father's palace after marriage and the way she takes her father on for insulting Mahadev. That entire sequence was just so beautiful

One of my absolute favourite scenes was when Mahadev tells Sati that she is one with nature. It was the scene where Mahadev and Sati are spending some lone time right after getting married and she gets jealous because a petal or leaf touches him. I remember that scene was shot so beautifully and it truly was a visual treat. I remember, we were given the scene between Aragorn and Arwen from 'Lord of the Rings' as inspiration. I thought that was a beautiful scene!
