A couple of days back , I cried when they break the news of death of two kids. Father of them was found with hypothermia and frostbite....... after 8 hours in hospital he started asking about his daughters, only then people knew about his daughters...... after extensive search they found bodies of both girls, frozen to death. Initial news was itself very shocking but another update of same story was very painful for me . It is now in news that father was drunk when he left his house with two daughters, elder three years old and younger one year old. Both kids were only in T-shirt and diapers and temp was -50 celcius with wind chill.

My question is , people make a big issue of smoking .. it is ban everywhere, so much money is spend on awareness programs etc..but why we can't see such actions , such bans on alcohol!!!!. Yes smoking is bad, but smoker increases his/her chances of death by certain diseases, or increase a chance of certain diseases among other people.. even then there is a possiblity of reversal of such effects upto certain level. But can we see any of such thing among drunk drivers , who kill innocent people...

What do you think.... which one is bigger evil ... smoking or alcohol?

Dewey that was a veri sad story indeed.//

I still think smoking is an evil. The point is people drink alcohol to get mood changes... and depressed.. people want to drink because they like it. The question is can they hurt somebody else while doing such things.... a smoker can set his house on fire if he is a chain smoker..

people who drink irresponsibly are the ones like above who caused the problem...... and drinking itself.... i dont whether reponsible behavior is by itself too much ... possibly

Evil is Evil. Nothing is greater or lesser evil IMHO.

Irresponsible smoker would not only set house on fire by falling a sleep while smoking but can also kill others who could be sleeping in that house. Forget abt the damage they put to their body with smoke but damage others who are around them with 2nd hand smoke 😳

People who drink irresponsibly can not only kill them selves driving under the influence but can kill other innocent people on the road. Too sad.

To me they both are equally evil.

BTW Dewey the story you mention is indeed a very sad one 😳

Ab Fire to fire hoti hai, chule se ho yaa candle se . Can't say one is badder then the other.

But I have seen more people smoking mindlessly, out of habit , maybe not necessarily because of addiction. More people think it is ok to smoke then drink and more people therefore smoke but will never touch a drink. Smoking has one more negative impact on people around smoker which alcohol does not have.

I do not think any habit is evil. Evil are the people who act irresponsibly.

If a person chooses to smoke, fine with me. They are aware of the consequences and still choose to do so, that is their prerogative. However, I am strongly against public smoking. Please, you are the smoker; I do not care to inhale your crap. Similarly those who smoke by their family, kids, pets are affecting the health of everyone around them - that is not cool.

Since the act of smoking itself causes second hand smoke that effects others there are laws trying to curb smoking.

Alcohol lowers inhibitions, loosens people and lets them have fun. In responsible quantities it is non addictive and non toxic. It is only when people go overboard and forget their limits that they cause problems like drunk driving, endangering themselves and others, abusive behavior. If a person sits in a corner drinks their life away, passes out affecting nothing but their own life - that is their choice. But when drinking affects friends and family it is a problem.

Since the act of consuming alcohol has no immediate effects on other people and acts committed by excessive alcohol like abuse, endangerment, drunk driving are illegal there is not a big impetus on curbing alcohol.

if one's bad other is worst, but i feel atleast smoking does not turns ur mind off...for a period like alcohol does...

now responsibly or irrespnsibly, carefully or whatever, u can drive home after smoking a pack, and with alcohol its just not the same... I really feel bad for the girls... May God bless them...

ofcourse smoking is a better evil....anytime

If that's true then why do we have so many different laws and sections under which different types of crimes can be classified and charged. I don't think you'll be able to support this view of yours.

Anyway, IMO somehow nowadays I feel it's become sort of a fad to hound the smokers and act of smoking. I agree that drinking a small amount everyday, especially wine, is actually healthy whereas smoking whether a single puff or a whole pack is harmful. But everyone knows that when it comes to excess, smoking affects others way less than drinking.

ok i think smoking is not an evil since like i said earlier unless the person sets the house on fire on smokes out in other;s pace he is not really harmful. but alcohol is mood depressor... and can impact veri much other people's lives.....adversely...
