All this saying means is there are some things which are taken at face value...if you start reasoning with the right and the wrong you may tilt on either side... War and love are two such things which cant be subjected to reason in face of conflict or warfare...

If a soldier thinks about the family of the guy is shooting point blank or on the back he may end up haing himself killed or even losing the war... so there is no measure of fairness in war which is why they say all's fair in war... 😊

i mean how could you kill someone if he/she loves ur lover or torture prisoner of war?

shouldnt there be a limit line?

how can a reasonable and logical person say yes to it?

I think the person who said it was winning using unfair means.....😆

Thanks Mitti ji😊... unfortunate that thread got closed, but at least this gives a chance to take that argument forward, without hurting the sentiments of any hindus or any human. Mitti, the question you raised was a thought provoking one and certainly one of interest, in my opinion. I hope all will respect the sentiment behind Mitti's post and debate on the moot question without writing anything seemingly blasphemous, and thereby allowing the thread to remain open.

My thoughts on Mitti's original post

Mahabharata contains so many such unanswered questions, so many instances which, on the face of it seems very unfair, but yet were considered necessary in the ultimate goal - Dharma.

One such instance in the other thread was - the beheading of Jayadrath, husband of Dushala. Jayadrath's father had renounced his kingdom and was observing penance and was a very enlightened soul. In his earlier days however, he had given a boon to Jayadrath that whoever is responsible for causing his sons head to roll to the ground, he shall die. This boon had made Jayadrath almost invincible, though not a highly accomplished archer/ warrior, no one would risk killing him, for it would mean their own death. Such power at the hands of one not on the path of dharma was also causing havoc, for Jayadrath was misusing his powers, he was a cruel king. The war of Mahabharata was, inter alia, to win over adharma and restore Dharma in the world.... Therefore, he had to go, yet Arjuna could not be sacrificed in the process. Duryodhan knowing that Jayadrath was being targetted, placed him such on the battlefield that Arjuna could go nowhere near him. Lord Krishna therefore caused a temporary cloud cover over the sun, leading Jayadrath out, giving Arjuna a clear view of him and he aimed his arrows such that the severed head was carried all the way out of the battlefield straight to the lap of the father of Jayadrath, who was roused from his meditation by an object falling in his lap. In shock, he stood and his sons head rolled on the ground and his own head split into a 1000 pieces. Those were the days when Kings performed penances to seek boons from the Gods, boons of their choices. These boons were such that the Gods could not refuse, yet the effect of the boons were causing great adharma on earth. There are numerous such instances where a seeming wrong was committed to achieve something, but when you look at the whole story, you realise that the seeming wrong was only such, to correct a bigger wrong. Jayadrath's father should not have granted his son such a boon, which had the effect of making him invincible. The power was excessive and he ill used it and therefore, they both paid the price for it.

Coming back therefore, to this post, sometimes, a lesser evil to eradicate a higher evil may be necessary, as long as one remembers that and does it mis-use it. Power in any kind, in excess, is bad and there always has to be a counter balance to it. Bad exists to keep the good pure, and the good exists to keep the bad from being overwhelming.

Raj, please do not close this thread, there is lots we can discuss. Qwerty was right in his own way, some words were unfortunate, but surely, as mature adults, we can discuss this without using words that can hurt the sentiments of others. If all threads are closed like this, we wont have anything to debate.

Everything is fair in love and war

In war, these days with nuclear weapon, anything can happen...so if a war happens everything will be destroyed and everything will be fair in wars point to view but it will be wrong, but there no one can stop anyone from using those weapons, there are no rules for war and nor are there for love, in love if you can do any thing for your lovers happiness you can also do wrong things to see them happy. Not always to get them one does wrong, but if someone is troubling them one might kill that person and that will be wrong....

When ever a game doesnt have rules then everything is fair in it, it might be wrong or right

In war no matter what it is one wants to win, and on love mostly people go insane, so everything is forgiven that is done by an insane person😆

fair and unfair are relative terms.
everything is fair in love and war is a one-sided statement. The same thing is obviously unfair to the other. If it were fair for all, it need not have to be said 😆 .

I agree...

well i do believe in some cases
but not in all cases............................

there r times when everything b'comes fair.....but only if it's done for someone's good.
for someone's happiness we sometimes have to compromise with our principles😳
