Awkward moment when IF targets me with their "UK Single Asians Ads". Read about that this morning RTH, British media were mocking him. It'd be good to see Snowden win it.
Lol came across this..

"student:hey government can I have some money to go to university
  • uk government:sure here you go. you'll have to pay it back but only when you're earning 21,000+ a year, and if you don't pay it off after 30 years we'll just write it off, don't worry about it man
  • scottish government:nah man just go to uni we ain't gonna charge you
  • us government:no. you gotta pay it yourself. upfront. your parents have to save up from the moment you're born. good luck, f**ker."

Gonna try the Pop tarts , I like anything marshmallow.

@Putin is going crazy, I really doubt he will go against the International sentiments right now.

Student Loans are a terrible mess in USA. People in USA don't want to get educated because of debt. Due to lack of educated Americans the Asians/South Asians take the prime jobs. Yet, no one thinks education is something to invest in.

so if it is expensive, it is expensive for all right?

more so for asians given exchange rate ?😲

I thought avg salary is 60K-80Kfor grads there..which is good enough, over the span of entire career..they would earn enough..

Why do you need to earn enough to pay back debts and tax when you can get on with your life comfortably thanks to all the social security that is available. Its not as if there is any peer pressure or social pressure to study unlike in asian countries where educational degrees are considered as status symbol. In some states of India it increases the dowry rate in the marriage market .
If a person doing manual labour gets the same social status as one who slogged for his degree it further reduces the motivational factor for taking up higher studies.
In addition to all that with the parental pressure missing how many children would actually want to study at all?

The UK also has a student loan company so most students borrow from them. They even provide accommodation costs as well as mainteance costs in addition to the tuition fee. Their interest rate is extremely low compared to private banks and you pay back a very small amount of your salary each month.

@zorro - you need to earn enough because the NHS isn't gonna help you pay your bills lol. Anything between 17-20k is seen as hand to mouth in this economy.

@zephs - just from experience, that figure does not sound right to me. At one point I was curious and looking at graduate jobs in the states and they pay a lot less. Feel free to correct me RTH. Can I just add the recruitment process is a joke compared to the shit that we go through! (I'm talking finance here)

@Zephy 60-70K annual income is a pipe dream. You get there only after Masters + Min five years' work experience. Market is highly saturated and the economic crash killed job markets. Job market is still sluggish. Most baby boomers who should have retired have chosen not to. Also there is a big push to hire returning veterans. So a new graduate has their work cut out.

Despite the exchange rate making education more expensive foreign students have some distinct competitive advantages over US students

- Their foundation in math and science is better

- Most are raised with the mentality of studying hard and succeeding

- Asians focus on IT, medicine and other high value fields that give higher ROI, US students lean to what speaks to them - arts, history, culture etc.

- There is a model minority stereotype of Asians that makes employees prefer them

- Asians are more willing to sacrifice work/life balance than US workers, giving another employment advantage

- Asian students tend to take student loans in their home country. Once they earn in dollars, exchange rate makes their loans "smaller". For the US student though their loans are in dollars and the inflation actually makes their loans "larger".

@H4L - Finance grads have to face the toughest recruitment process. the probability of landing a job is really marginal. Some employers won't process your application even if you don't have top Uni on your CV. Only the top AAA companies pay you well otherwise the average grade salary will be around 25-27K in London.
@ Hades - This I got for US average grad salary: https://www.shrm.org/hrdisciplines/compensation/articles/pages/starting-salary-class-2013.aspx

45 K is decent salary for a fresh out of college grad, unless you are living in a city like NY where living standard is high.

For all the advantages you posted, only a very small percentage of International Students get jobs both In US or elsewhere because of strict Visa restrictions.
