some points that I want to put forward:
1. Modi was an ex sevak and an ardent supporter of RSS, an organization which came into being inspired by mussolini and hitler. Believing in 'PURGING' the nation of muslims and refusing them citizenship unless they acknowledge their hindu lineage!!!
I can't imagine living in a country headed by a right wing nationalist circa WW2.

2. The economic policies that Modi is propagating is more PR than truth
The foreign investments in Gujrat is easier and quicker because the villages are displaced with such alacrity and fury within weeks that they can't protest. Gujrat is not only ahemdabad and surat, Kuttch is also Gujrat as are the innumerable tribal areas where development is a farce.
Additionally Modi like everybody else makes tall claims but has refused to lay out a plan to do so

3.To the people who are sick of the nepotism and corruption of congress, so am I, but what proof is it that NDA would be better? They have an equal percentage of ex-convicts as MPs and MLAs.

I don't want the democracy that is India to be turned over into a dictatorial regime of 'extremist hindu nationalist' and seeing educated people support him in the name of development is scary to say the least

like hades said - its a tough choice. rahul would be a disaster and i don't know about modi. i do not support third front socialists either. however, one thing i will say is that it's unfair to put all the blame of communalism and riots on him and bjp as more riots have happened under congress yet nobody views them the same way. if muslims have been left behind, then the blame for this lies squarely with a ) congress party which has been in power most of the time and b) the community leaders. They have kept muslims in the siege/victim mindset for votes and power while doing nothing to actually give them a helping hand . BTW this doesn't just apply to muslims, it applies to all communities who have been left behind. bjp is also playing the religion card, if not why is ram mandir such a core issue for them in a country where 400 million live on less than a dollar a day. i have seen mandir's across north india are in such an abysmal state especially the ones in banaras of all places, nobody even talks about it.

i won't be voting. personally, i don't see any future in india for me and my family so i am not emotionally invested either. this is probably a defeatist attitude but i don't think the cure for india's problems is as simplistic as electing a leader. as if it is some sort of fix it all glue.

I could tell some general views. I am also a neutral voter. I still am not sure Modi is the best choice to be PM of India. But I can't accept Rahul Gandhi as PM due to some simple reasons. What sort of logic is it to make an inexperienced person as PM? if someone has to be PM, one thing I expect is he is to have some experience as some other junior minister or even as a chief minister of some state and has to have a good political career. I strongly believe Rahul's father made many mistakes as PM because of his inexperience. Interestingly shrewd and experienced politicians in Congress itself could fool him. An interesting fact is both Rajiv and Indira were killed because they sent army in some places. May be what Indira did could be accepted but not what Rajiv did. It was totally unnecessary for him to send army to Sri Lanka. Why can't Congress find an experienced and respected politician who could be made as PM candidate?

I will tell another point here. Democracy is not just about casting vote in the election. It is the way of life in which people take responsibility for themselves and others and the nation and how people are helped for that by the Govt:. Can anyone say which leader helps us to evolve and grow this way? This type of evolution is not a simple process and not something one can achieve in even a few years. This type of life is slowly evolved from the bottom. In a large country like India, this is a very complicated process. The way of this world is really terrible. There are many nations and each nation is a selfish unit and the nations in top put down other nations also. The Western nations could propagate many lies too. A good leader has to guide people through these types pf problems.
Notice that those countries who enjoy the fruits of democracy have grown through atleast a few centuries and have also faced terrible crises. Examples: French Revolution, Hitler's regime. American civil war etc. etc. We see Japan in a nice position as on today. Was it a smooth ride for them? They were brutally out down by West in many ways till atom bombs were dropped in their lands. They worked for themselves through those crises.

Thus it is not an easy thing for us to say who will be the best PM as on today as it takes long time to make democracy the way of life.

One of the important things, we have to note is doing something good for the people of the nation is much more complicated than what we see in the election manifesto of Congress or BJP. In India, gullible voters do probably cast votes for some party. But in USA, less than 50% of people go for poll and they will vote to only the party which is able to convince them that they have direct benefit from voting that party.
