Before we accept anyone as God they must generally prove themselves. Quite often all of us have our own concept of a God and if the real God does not measure up to our expectations we throw them out. 😆
so I would throw out any God if they do not measure up.😆
I rather have no God then a lesser God, I think.
But in all practicality a lot depends on ourselves, God is only a guide and we have to grow our own crops and feed ourselves and enjoy the taste.

So basically what you mean is that there are lets say 5-6 cars (group of people) travelling via different rotues (religion) towards a common destination (God).
What if all cars except one fall from the cliff on their way to the destination and only one car manages to reach its destination. Is your question that what if we are in one of the cars that goes off the ciff?
Now how should we model those who are not seeking this destination. Where is their car going?

1) When I will find that out, it will be too late. lol. It wont be about following any order by then.
2) However If God decides to intervene while we are on our way and tells us that okay your car is on highway to the dangerzone then there are two possibilities
2b- how do we know if thats the real God. we therefore keep on same track
2c- if the God is real then sure we will change the car
3) In any case the car GPS system (luck, parents) is to be blamed. lol.

Your hypothesis negates almost every code that people practice in believing in the existence of God. The whole point behind it, I feel is that God does not show himself. People don't know what he's like. They say he's omnipresent but does not meet the eyes. I do not believe in the existence of the same. But I know this, God is people's creation for solace, a source to shift their blames on and even a source of strength. Whatever suits em best, yeah? They like oblivion, God's that to me.

Whether he is not good or not, atheists should not seem to care.

Frankly I do not want to fool around with God because many things that have happened in our lives are still unexplained. Like a huge Super Computer that trancends time and space a lot of events are controlled and syncronized; it gets more complicated when past, present and future are all rolled into one viz. living in the moment.
Some say that there is a wall that separates us from God but God says there is no wall at all.

Yes , I believe It is one extreme to believe in God... it is another extreme not to believe in God... and we have to be just in the middle, absolutely balanced...and I believe God is not a thing, nor is God a person... its a presents in you,...it cannot be asked whether God exists... That is like asking whether existence exists..😊
