'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil'!

Avoid evil at all costs? Is this lesson truly something we want to take into the social realm? Do the three monkeys tell us to see, hear and not react or should it be upon hearing and seeing evil that we should react?

If the person is not exposed to evil, how do they know what evil is? Should there be a 4th monkey, to depict human life cycle! The human life cycle is ruled by mind, speech and actions, should we look the other way and believe ignorance is always a bliss?

ps.. Non Vedo, Non Sento, Non Parlo! 😉

Yes the Three Monkeys is a gentle reminder. Basically we should:
See good
Do good
Be good

I also like what Buddhism teaches, the Eightfold Path

1. Right View ie Wisdom
2. Right Intention

3. Right Speech ie Ethical Conduct
4. Right Action
5. Right Livelihood

6. Right Effort ie Mental Development
7. Right Mindfulness
8. Right Concentration

well as a kid I asked my father this question "why do we need three different monkeys? shouldnt it be one monkey following all three?" 😆 Gandhi ji was smart enough to put 3 monkeys rather than one huh! 😉

and congress definitely follow it ..

One will see and talk evil but wont listen (to anything) ... [DigVijay Singh]

Other will talk and hear evil but don't see any --- Chitambaram
😆

third one will see and listen evils but won't talk any -- Manmohan Singh

I have always questioned the Middle Path, should we even do anything. The word 'perfect' has lost it's value, in the search for an ideal world.

Whatever we do we should not over do it, but use our buddhi to evaluate.
The term Right Understanding is most beautiful.
We have to take our ego, personal prejudices and limitations out of the equation.
As we walk the path the awareness too grows.
Certain persons have certain good qualities, habits and principles which we must appreciate and learn.
Ahimsa is another beautiful word too.

Sage Patanjali himself emphasized the proper behavior and attitude as the fundamental steps to achieving samadhi. These first two steps are the most difficult.
Yama Niyama.

Evilness is fascinating and appealing, if I may say so. Besides, it is always easier to entitle your indulgence to what we call a retroactive response to the surrounding, the surrounding being infected with the evil. Hence, the 3! monkeys do not stand much of a chance in truth. Stimulation is the best you can entail, stimulate ideas to kindle the evil within and all that, you can't really avoid it, though.
