Ugadi is indeed a festival awaited by us. Being born and brought up outside Andhra ... I agree that I might have missed the traditional Ugadi ... but nevertheless it's celebrated quite well here by the Andhra associations and even in our family. The making of 'Ugadi Pachchadi' and having it as the first thing in the morning .. is also very special. It's one of the main parts of Ugadi. The Ugadi Pachchadi' that is the special Ugadi chutney is a mixture of all the flavours .... and is made by using neem flower,Jaggery,sugercane,banana,chilli powder,tamarind,raw mango etc. .... and it is of a huge importance. It is considered that when you have it with a spoon ... the first taste you sense indicates how the year will be for you... whether sweet,sour,bitter,spicy etc etc !!
Thus it's actually a much awaited festival for us. Even after being far from Andhra ... if not anything else, we've experienced this tradition for sure !!!
