As far as I remember, Sony was a new channel at that time. People used to watch more of Zee TV. Even I never used to take a second look at Sony. I remember the transmission used to start only at 2PM. 😆
CID is what drew me into it. I was channel surfing and saw Ashutosh Gowarikar there and decided to sit thru the serial...and it was CID. They never used to look at TRPs of individual programmes back then. They were trying to establish the channel itself and all programmes were collectively working towards the same goal. The quality of the programmes was important to Sony back then. Not OTT promotions.
About Abhijeet: Ashutosh Gowarikar had his set of fans...including me and when he left CID abruptly( to make Lagaan), it was a big blow to CID as per the articles in newspaper magazine sections. The internet was not so widespread back then. They brought in Tushar Dalvi to play Insp Jayanth, but somehow he lacked the punch. Maybe didn't look tough enough to be a cop...he was too soft. They realised that they needed someone with more 'fire in the belly' and then arrived Aditya Srivastav.
I have mentioned this several times before...Daya's role increased after Abhijeet came in. He never had that kind of a 'chemistry' with Jayanth. And with Viren(Ashutosh), it was a formal boss-subordinate relation. It was after Abhijeet arrived that Daya got his due as well. It developed into a sweet friendship.
I can't say if TRPs increased after Abhijeet arrived, but surely it had fallen after Viren left, and Abhijeet's arrival picked it up.
