I don’t get it.

It will be a huge construction project. It will be very expensive. I don’t get what we will gain from it.

Government claims it will create reveneu by offering ships a quick pass in return of money. I have no idea how much they plan to charge the ships but if it is some amount outrageous, ships will just wait around for a conventional pass through bosphorus.

Also waiting for others to choose the canal is a winning strategy, if other ships choose the canal and pay for it, it means you will wait less since the other ships are not in the queue.

The canal is estimated to cost something like 20 billion Turkish liras (something like 4–5 billion dollars). It is expensive…

So what is the deal with this project… Bosphorus is not the heart of the world or something. A relatively small number of countries need access to it.

I suspect it is an attempt to stimulate the economy, a huge construction and infrastructure project that will provide employement to people and enrich some construction companies (most probably shoe-lickers of AKP).

It will not enrich Turkish people as a whole, it is for the benefit of few people. It is a waste of taxpayer money. Did you know that Turkey needs something like 50k more teachers? Yeah, forget it, a canal that will maybe pay for itself in 60 years is more important.

Erdoğan and his minions do not know how the economy works. That is the only explanation. They hope by constructing big things they can grow the economy. Government spending is key to their strategy. Well, you tell me, how well it worked so far…

They do not get that you not only need to build but the thing you build also needs to be according to the needs of the people.

As it is, the Canal Project is a waste.
