The review of xXx: Return of Xander Cage has to begin with Deepika Padukone in India. Vin Diesel will just have to wait. So here goes: Deepika Padukone is not an after-thought in xXx, neither is she an arm candy for Vin Diesel's X aka Xander Cage. And mercifully, her Indian identity is not pushed down our throats even though she bravely keeps her accent desi. In fact, as far as xXx has a leading lady, it is she. Deepika matches Vin kick for kick and knife fight for knife fight. She can throw grenades with the best of them and can rescue herself, thank you very much. And she does it all while wearing leather minis (none of those horrendous fur capes that Xander Cage insists on wearing and thank God for that). There is a kiss too, but to get the details, wait for the film when it releases on Saturday.

Now, back to Padukone, who plays the role of Serena Unger, she is not just a piece of eye candy who is merely there to add a degree of sex appeal to the film. Although, she does that anyway as she sports a pair of black leather shorts. Despite her skinny built, Unger uses her cat-like reflexes as she tosses knives and grenades to gain the upper hand on her opponents in fights. She's not some damsel in distress. Padukone's character is one who could work her own way out of trouble and look badass while doing it.The hotness quotient between Unger and Cage continues to pile up ever since their encounter.
