Well, what if Ganga had some mental disorder? But I personally think that not reveling her identity, taking a promise, killing babies and finally leaving the only existing baby indicate to a strange and cruel psychology which we can't relate to. If she really had mental disorder then could not rear her son so well, that's too singlehandedly. Maybe some love was born in her mind in presence of son, but she easily handovered him to his father and forgot him, that sounds cold-blooded cruel nature again. In his later life Bhishma faced so many problems but his mother never appeared to guide him.

Mental disorder sounds good. Go ahead and make it a little more elaborate though. The Santanu imagery sounds good. But I am not getting the 'disturbed' vibe from Ganga. Doesn't matter even if you have to make it more posts.

Okay so I will try to show Devavrata is missing Ganga and some flashback memory will show a hint of that disorder. Probably her brain was working properly when she handed over son to father, but not always. Mental disorder patients too behave normally sometimes.

Not necessarily. Depends on the type of disorder.

Occurs to me we should take advantage of Ganesh's Psychology degree😆

I had been busy trying to work out KP in my mind. And I found myself trying to figure out if the living things were gotten out the forest before the fire. Also I was the one who suggested miscarriage as a possibility, when the versions clearly say she killed them.

So, I thought I better suggest another rule. INTELLECTUAL HONESTY. No saying it didn't happen unless we have a source which says it. I guess that means I have to actually believe G killed all those people in KP😭

Urmila, one possibility, re: Ganga. In the old days, they used to throw out deformed children. Actually the Vrishnis threw out Eklavya, if I read HV correctly. We don't know that was the case with Ganga. But we could have Shantanu wondering if that was the case or had his wife gone insane.

What if she gives up the children to her family...a promise to give all her children to her own family.from Santanu...in the epic she is river Ganga and drowns the children in herself...maybe she is from a matrilineal tribe where the custody of children has to be given to her tribe...Santanu agrees initially but by the time 8 is born is no longer willing to let go...so as a compromise Ganga keeps the child till he grows up and then hands him back...and because Santanu breaks his promise leaves him...like chitrangadA and Arjun with babruvahan...
Santanus brother also becomes king of vahlika, their mothers kingdom...so initially maybe Santanu is ok with it because his brother has done that and he madly in love with Ganga so is willing to accept all conditions,,, but 8 years later has a change of heart...that can also explain why Ganga has to leave him...tribe rules...

I have made another possibility. She wanted to be a free woman forever and she loved seducing. This one I'm pretty sure because otherwise she could not keep a King busy in unlimited romance away from his kingdom. This type of women don't want children as they think rearing children will hinder their free enjoyment. In Brahma Vaivarta Puran, Devi Virajaa cursed her 7 sons as she felt they were obstacles in enjoyment.

I think I like the insanity idea better.
For the err, seduction idea to work, the king would have to cooperate. Or at least she would have to think the king would cooperate.

Of course Shantanu cooperated. He never went against her wish in fear of losing her company. And yes, Ganga tried to seduce Shantanu's father too 😆 this shows you her real nature.
