I was intending to ask u, what is this fast for? Can everyone do it or is it like a married women type of thing? I envy that u can fast. I won't be able to do it even if someone pays me a million bucks. Literally die of hunger. The most I can do is half a day and even for that I prepare myself well off the night before by stuffing myself until I will burst or something.
there is an Indian Goddess called Durga Maa.. so there are these 9 days called Navratras, which are called her days.. we have a full fledged worship ritual for it, which is perfomed in the mornings and the evenings religeously everyday.
its not compulsary that everyone should fast for ALL 9 days.. some people do it all, some keep it in pair (any 2 days of Navratras) and some dont keep it at all.. i used to do it in pair previously but now i am keeping all days fast since last 5-6 years..
no its not a married women thing.. anyone can keep it.. i am keeping it since i was 15 or 16 may be...
hahahhaa.. its not that difficult you see.. we dont keep ourselves hungry in these fasts.. we can eat fruits, potatoas and there is a special flour and salt for fasting, so can cook it and eat.. its just that we cant have normal food or onion, garlic or non veg or anything from outside.. THAT IS IT...
there are difficult fasts too like karvachauth, where you cant even drink water whole.. you eat anything only after praying moon in the night..
so. dont worry.. you CAN keep this fast.. you can start from one day.. earlier i used to do it to clean my stomach for two days.. coz all GOOD things go in.. no spices and no fast food.. makes sense eh?
