Character Introduction
DR.SHASHANK GUPTA:
He is the head of Sanjeevani hospital and has spent his entire career as a doctor for this hospital and its patients. He is considered a 'God' in the world of surgery and all interns wait for an opportunity to assist him in the operation theater. Dr. Shanshank is an idol not only for interns but also for other resident doctors of Sanjeevani. Dr.Shashank's two daughters Ridhimaa and Anjali are world to him and all he wants is to see his daughters become competent doctors. Both Ridhimaa and Anjali come to Sanjeevani to do their internship but get no special treatment for being the daughters of the head of the hospital. His first wife, Smriti (Anjali's mother) is no more and he has found love in Padma, his second wife.
NURSE PADMA BANSAL/GUPTA:
Padma had been working at Sanjeevani for the last two decades as a nurse. She was the right hand of Shashank, helping him in every problem, be it professional or personal. She is infact the biological mother of Ridhimaa (Shashank's adopted daughter). Padma and Shashank have liked each other for decades and are now married due to constant efforts of the interns and their family members. Padma is now an indispensable part of the Gupta family. She loves Anjali as much as she loves Ridhimaa. For once she can overlook Ridhimaa, but not Anjali. That is why, she is loved by all.
NANI:
Nani is the senior most member of the Gupta family. She is Smriti's mother (Shashank's first wife). Shashank calls her his 'ma' and considers her so too. Nani is full of advice in any matter. Ridhimaa is the apple of her eyes. She loves her even more than Anjali. Nani, along with Anjali had conspired into getting Padma and Shashank married. Nani, irrespective of her age is the best friend of every child. She stands rock-like in the face of the problems and difficulties which try to affect her family's happiness.
DR.SHUBHANKAR:
Shubhankar is also a senior doctor at Sanjeevani and a Cardiac Surgeon by profession. He is amiable, friendly, and soft-spoken and can be trusted with problems. His wife is dead and he is raising his daughter, Navneeta as best as he can. Shubhankar and Kirti have been together since college. He likes her very much but both are too shy to express their feelings towards each other. Though Shubhankar has no problems in being friendly with the interns, and being their friend, he is proud to call himself the Senior Doctor of Sanjeevani.
DR.KIRTI:
She is a senior doctor at Sanjeevani. Dr.Kirti is stern and strict. Nothing wrong can be done at Sanjeevani with her, being around. She is also the in-charge of the interns and assigns them duties. Kirti, though seems very hardhearted at first sight, has the best interests of her interns in her mind while scolding them at the slightest mistake. She loves Sanjeevani as her family. Even then, she cannot call herself as a friend of the interns. Kirti possesses a soft corner towards her colleague and college friend, Dr.Shubhankar.
DR.SAPNA SHAH:
She is a simple girl from a simple, yet reasonably rich Gujrati household. She is the youngest of three daughters and her father always encouraged her to do what she wanted. Having seen her older sisters married off and straddled with bawling children early in their life, she escaped in the direction of a possible career, with the intention that it would be a legitimate excuse for the family to delay her marriage. Her mother is possessive and she is always trying to make excuses for her mother's over domineering and loving over indulgence. She gets a dabba full of Gujrati food, large enough to feed all the interns. And she has to very often leave work early, or keep Friday evenings free to meet a potential match. She once used to fancy Dr.Shubhankar, but has now found her soul mate in her husband, Ashutosh.
DR.ATUL JOSHI:
A lovable character, Atul is the best guy friend a girl can ever have, without ever making him a real boy friend. He is a good natured, easy going boy, who has become a doctor to fulfill the wish of his dead father, Dr.Omesh Joshi (Omi) who is part of Sanjeevani alumni. His father worshiped Sanjeevani and Shashank Gupta and he has come to the place of his father's worship to pay his tribute to the man who adopted him. He is always treated like one of the girls when girlie talks are being discussed. When he realizes certain people cannot be changed, he takes mater into his own hands so that pollution in Sanjeevani can be reduced. He loves nature, plants and above all Anjali.
DR.ANJALI GUPTA:
Anjali is Shashank's older daughter and is basically one who is used to having her way. Extremely beautiful, she is quiet conscious of her looks and not above using them. She is manipulative and conniving. In addition she is also academically intelligent, making her a good doctor in her own right, though she is never a favourite amongst the interns, owing to her to-the-point attitude. Her ultimate aim is to be the head of the organization Sanjeevani, as it means that she will have power, respectability. And it will declare her as the fitting heir apparent to Shashank's legacy. She will employ all the methods to get whatever she sets her eyes on. She does not care for Atul's feelings towards her as she doesn't love him. Nevertheless, she loves her family and adores her little sister.
DR.RAHUL GAREWAAL:
He is a smart, good-looking and cool dude like Armaan and is a new intern from Sanjeevani Amritsar. He was in Armaan's college and was a complete champu. Everyone in the college would have-the-time laugh at him and all the girls would roam around with Armaan, which he hated. He liked one girl-'Sonia' in his college who in turn liked Armaan. He is now, well behaved, he knows how to woo girls with his good mannerisms. He is the kind of guy, every girl would like to take home to her parents! Speed is in his blood & racing is his passion. Rahul loves to fight with Muskaan (his colleague in Amritsar as well as now in Mumbai), who is not able to decipher the love behind these fights.
DR.MUSKAAN CHADDHA:
Muskaan Chaddha is a young Intern of Sanjeevani from Amritsar (Punjab). Being a thorough Punjabi at soul but modern at heart, Muskaan's attire very well defines her attitude towards life. Clad in a pair of jeans, short embellished kurti, long dangling earrings, fluorescent coloured scarf that holds her lovely curly locks, Muskaan is the incessant chatterbox who views the world through rose coloured spectacles. Everything looks pink and beautiful in her life. For her, life is fun and a game – to be enjoyed to the fullest. A firm believer in God, she turns to her 'Babaji' for help whenever she finds herself in a fix! She's chirpy & amiable & makes new friends in a jiffy! The only rival in Muskaan's life is Dr.Rahul Garewaal.
DR.ARMAAN MALLIK:
22 year old Armaan represents the new age man; one who is self confident, efficient, cheeky and occasionally even smug. He is also extremely handsome and gives the impression of being a skirt chaser. He enjoys female company and makes no bones about the fact that he has a weakening knee effect on women. He is used to being the centre of female attention and also knows how to sustain that attention when he does receive it. Armaan comes from an affluent family and has never wanted for anything materialistic ever in his life. But beneath the suave and confident exterior lies a focused doctor, whose sole aim is to outgrow the stigma of being the son of an alcoholic anesthesiologist. His life is totally changed due to arrival of Ridhimaa, who makes her way straight into his heart.
DR.RIDHIMAA GUPTA:
Ridhimaa is a 21 year old, warm hearted, kind and good-natured girl. The single most important thing in her life along with being a good human being is her dream to make her father, Shashank Gupta proud of her achievements in the medical arena. She is intelligent and modern in her outlook to life, and yet respects and represents all the core Indian values. Quick to forgive and forget, at the same time she will not take blatant injustice lying down. Ridhimaa's weak spot is Anjali, as she allows Anjali to always get the better from her, but that again is not a sign of her weakness. She does so simply because her nature is amenable to everything. Yet, there is one person, an intern like her in Sanjeevani, who manages to get a rise out of the generally very easy going Ridhimaa. How much ever Ridhimaa tries to ignore Armaan, she unexplainably cannot.
