Here's the very enlightening dialogue in which Indra surrenders, and Shri Krishna delivers an beautiful, very currently relevant message on the duties of a good leader, the ills of greed and corruption, and the fact that Indra's ansh-avtaar Arjun is well-taken care of 😛 Ashok Balakrishnan makes a perfect Krishna in this scene, especially when he gets angry right in the beginning - even though I'm 99.93586% sure it's not his voice we hear, his expressions and gestures are soooo awesome 👏👏👏👏👏 And Indra is voiced by none other than our Vasudevji (who I now think is Sunil Pandey, not Shahnawaz 😕) btw.
Indra: He Prabhu, traahimaam! Raksha karo prabhu, raksha karo. He prabhu, he deen dayaal, mujhe kshama kijiye, mujhse bahut badi bhool ho gayi hai prabhu. Maine aap avinaashi brahma ko ek saadharan manavi baalak samajhkar aisi dhrishtata ki. Meri yeh bhool kshama ke yogya to nahin, parantu shaastra aapko akaaran dayalu bataate hain. Is liye, he daya ke saagar, mujh akinchan ko apna daas samajhkar kshama kijiye!
O Lord, I surrender to you! Protect me! O merciful one, forgive me, I've made a huge mistake. I thought of you – the invincible almighty – as a normal human boy and displayed such audacity. This error of mine is not really worthy of forgiveness, but the scriptures call you compassionate beyond reason. So, please, ocean of mercy, consider this pauper your servant and forgive me.
Krishna: He Mahendra, tumne hamein nahin pahechaana, iske liye ham tumhe doshi nahin maante, kyuki yeh to hamaari maya ka hi khel hai. Vaise to har chhote bade praani ke antar mein ham swayam hi viraajmaan hain. Phir bhi hamaari Yogmaya sabki buddhi par aisa parda daal deti hai, ke woh apne antar mein baithe huye mujhko na dekhkar, is sansaar ke bahaari dhrishyon mein hi bhatakte rehte hain. Is liye, tumhaare us bhool ko ham dosh nahin maante. Haan, tumhaare dusre apraadh ke liye ham tumhe avashya doshi maante hain!
O Indra, that you didn't recognize me, I don't blame on you, because this is the work of my own power of illusion. I'm actually within each and every creature, big or small, but still my power of illusion veils them such that not seeing me seated within them, they get lost in the material sights of this world. For this reason, I don't blame this mistake on you. But yes, for your other mistake I'm certainly holding you responsible!
Indra: Woh kya, prabhu?
What is that, lord?
Krishna: Dekho, raja hone ke naate, praja ki bhalaai ke liye jo tumhe swayam karna chaahiye, jo tumhaara dharm hai, raja ka kartavya hai, us kartavya ko pura karne ke liye tum logon se apni pooja karne ko keh rahe ho?! Is ka arth hai ki tum apne dharm ka paalan karne ke liye, is dharti ke praaniyon se pooja ki rishwat maangne lage ho?! Tumhe Indrapad par is liye sthaapit kiya gaya hai, ki tum samast praja ka kalyaan karo. Indra lok-paal hota hai, uska kartavya hai ki woh theek samay par varsha karke is dharti ko upjau banaaye, jisse anna, ghaas, aur vrikshon ki vriddhi ho. Parantu tumne usse apna kartavya na samajhkar, usse apna adhikaar samajh liya hai, taaki tum jahaan chaaho wahaan varsha hogi, jahaan na chaahoge wahaan sookha akaal padega? Apne ahankaar mein tum yeh bhool gaye ki hamaare yeh aagya hai, "Brahma jitne bhi praaniyon ko janm de, prithvi par utne praaniyon ke khaane-peene aur jeevan-nirvaah ka prabandh usse pehle kar diya jaaye." Yeh un praaniyon ka adhikaar hai. Parantu tum jaise swaarthi log prakriti ke us vidhaan mein hastakshep karke, woh sampada, jo dharti se samast praaniyon ke liye paida hoti hai, uspar apna adhikaar samajhkar, praja se unki keemat maangne lagte ho! Yeh aisa apraadh hai, jiske liye tum kshama ke yogya nahin ho!
Look - being a king, that which you should do for your people's welfare on your own, that which is your responsibility – your duty - to fulfill it, you're making people pray to you? Does this mean that just to perform that which is your rightful duty and purpose, you've started taking bribes from people? You were given the position of Indra so that you could work towards the welfare of the entire earthly population. Indra is supposed to be a worldwide caretaker, it is his duty to make it rain at the right time and make the earth fertile so that grains, grass, and trees can be plentiful. But considering the position to be your right rather than your duty, you've decided to give and withhold rain whenever and wherever you please, allowing for disastrous droughts to occur? In your pride you forgot my order, that "How many ever creatures Brahma puts on the earth - their eating, drinking, and other basic needs should be taken care of before their arrival." This is their right. But selfish people like you obstruct this law of nature, and that wealth which belongs to all of creation, you consider your property and demand a price for it! This is such a terrible crime, that it doesn't even deserve forgiveness.
Indra : He patit-paavan Parmeshwar, aapka kathan sarvada satya hai. Main shakti aur pad ke nashe mein apna kartavya, apna dharm hi bhool gaya tha. Parantu jis prakaar ek pita apne putra ki yogyata aur ayogyata ko na dekhkar uski har bhool ko kshama kar deta hai, ussi tarah, he prabhu, aap apne sneh se mujhe kshama kijiye, kyuki aap hi mere guru, mata, pita, bhai, sab hain!
O compassionate purifier of the fallen, o lord, what you're saying is absolutely true. Intoxicated by power and status, I forgot my duty – my very purpose. But just as a father overlooks his son's unworthiness and forgives his every mistake, in the same way lord, please forgive me in you boundless love. Because you only are my teacher, mother, father, brother – my everything!
(Gau Maata Surabhi morphs from a cow into a devi and intervenes)
Surabhi Mata: He deen-dayaal, he sharnaagat vatsal, is par daya kijiye. Isse ek agyaani baalak samajhkar kshama kar dijiye.
O merciful one, protector of refugees, have mercy on him. Consider him an ignorant child and forgive him.
Krishna: He Kaamdhenu Mata, aapko pranaam hai!
O Mother Cow of Plenty, my respects to you!
Surabhi Mata: Daasi ko mata kehte ho, yeh aapki bhakt-vatsalta hai. Phir bhi yadi mata ka sthaan diya hai, to mata ka kehna maankar Mahendra ko kshama kar do. Inko aapki maya ne hi bhramit kiya hai!
Calling your servant "mother" – that's how loving you are towards your devotees. Still, since you've given me the status of a mother, than listen to me and forgive Indra. Your power of illusion is what fooled him!
Krishna: Jo aagya. He Devraj, Surabhi mata ki kripa se aap apraadh mukt ho gaye hain.
As you command. O King of angels, by the grace of mother Surabhi, you are free from the burden of your crime.
Indra: Aap dhanya hai prabhu, aap dhanya hai!
You are great, Lord!
Krishna: Tumhaara kalyan ho.
May good come upon you.
Indra : He Govardhan dhaari, he Mayapati, aapke in shri charnon mein ek aur praathna hai. Yadi aagya ho, to nivedan karun?
O bearer of the mighty Govardhan, o master of illusion, I have one more petition to place at your sacred feet. May I?
Krishna: Kaho, kya ichha hai?
Tell me, what would you like?
Indra: Prabhu, prithvi par Kunti Devi ke garbh se utpan, mera ek putra hai. Uska naam hai Arjun. Aap usse apni seva mein sweekar kijiye prabhu, woh sada aapki aagya mein rahega. Putra pita ka pratinidhi hota hai, is liye main samjhunga ke aapne meri seva sweekar ki hai, prabhu! Arjun ki raksha ka uttardaitva main aap hi ko saunpta hoon.
Lord, on this earth, from the womb of Lady Kunti, I have a son. His name is Arjun. Please accept him as your servant lord, he'll remain faithful forever. A son is a reflection of his father, so I'll feel like you've accepted my service, lord! I leave the responsibility of Arjun's wellbeing to you.
Ab tum nischint hokar apne lok ko prasannata purvak laut jaao.
King of angels, I am aware that in the dynasty of Bharat, an aspect of you has incarnated as Arjun. So, rest assured, I promise you that as long as I remain on this earth, no one will ever be able to defeat Arjun in battle. Now relax, cheer up, and go home!
Indra: Aapki jai ho, prabhu!
Glory to you, Lord!
