The stink that still plagues Kay Kay
Mumbai: Kay Kay Menon still feels the stink. Shooting for a whole day at the most polluted site in the city did take a toll on him.
"When the makers of Sankat City told me that the shoot has been scheduled at the Deonar garbage dump, I asked myself, 'Why?'. But then, it was an experience that I won't forget. Even after returning home, the stink just refused to go. I could still feel the stench even after I took an hour-long bath," says Kay Kay.
Sources say initially BMC did not grant permission to shoot at the garbage dump thinking it would be shown in a negative way to portray pollution levels in Mumbai.
"We convinced BMC that the garbage dump is only a backdrop for the scene and it doesn't have anything to do with pollution levels. It was then that they agreed to let us shoot in the garbage dump," says a unit member.
Kay Kay continues, "I was also told by the production house that getting that locale to shoot was one of the toughest tasks. But I was not quite prepared to see mountains... literally mountains of garbage! And then the director asked me climb on top of one of those. It was an experience that I won't be able to forget."
But seeing the most polluted site in the city did have one more after effect on the actor.
"I have banned any form of plastic in my house. I have realised what pollution is doing to our city. And the best place to start spreading the awareness is my own home."
