"Don't be such a kid Swayam! You've just got to sign a goddamn document! Tumhari koi Big-Fat-Indian-Wedding style ki shaadi nahi karvayi jaa rahi hai, na? Aren't you happy by that?" Kria yelled, throwing her hands in the air - frustrated.
Swayam, who was already standing by the window, thrust himself a bit more into it with head shaking in disgust.
Kria melted a bit, by her dear best-friend's lost state. Reaching over to him, she tapped his shoulder.
"I know its difficult for you. But, its just a contract Sway! Bas kuchh hi dino ki baat hai. Then you'll be free again." She smiled as he looked her-ways.
Letting out a deep sigh, he closed his eyes.
"I know..." He breathed.
She pulled his shoulder - making him turn towards him. Before he could decipher, she pulled him into a warm, bone-crashing hug. He chuckled, as he realised and wrapped his arms round her.
"Thanks for being there for me, Kiri. Hamesha..." He whispered.
"Ohh Swayam! What are friends for? Lalloo!" She pulled back, and tapped his head.
__________
Swayam, Kria and Reyaansh - along with Mr. Shekhawat - walked into the court.
Swayam had been sweating and heaving badly, as Kria and Rey had been reassuring him continuously.
"Rey! Dad ne kaha tha ke she's a typical Indian home-science graduate girl. What if she doesn't understand english?" A badly tensed Swayam looked at Rey, hopefully.
Rey and Kria looked at each other, and muffled their laughter.
"Hmm... Baat to sahi hai Swayam." Rey stated thoughtfully. "But don't worry, it's a matter of just three months." He finished by repeating the sentence that he and Kria had been chanting since morning!
Swayam gave him a sharp glare, and rolling his eyes, looked away.
"Swayam beta, she's come." Mr. Shekhawat beamed a smile at him.
Swayam gulped hard, such that both Rey and Kria heard it! Again stifling their laughter, they asked him to proceed towards the table of the Magistrate.
With heavy steps, Swayam dragged himself towards the huge brown coloured table. He glanced across the room - spotting a girl in bright pink and green anarkali coming towards the table with a group of people surrounding her. Her bright green veil had covered her face - as well as the deep cut neck of her suit.
"Goshh! Who does this, now-a-days? But alas! She's a typically traditional girl, afterall!" Swayam mumbled to himself, irritated.
Soon they were signing the certificate cum contract. He waited for her to sign - with held-up breath. He wanted to know whether she signs in english...or...hindi...
And as she did some strange scribbling on the paper, he knew his worst fear had come true. She signed in hindi. Implying that she didn't know the english language !!
His mind drifted to the gorgeous girl he'd had as his girlfriend since past five years. An amazingly charming face above the world's most sexiest of body, with brains of an engineering genius. What a perfection she is! And now, he would have to bear this overshy clumsy girl for 3-flat months. Which meant 92 huge days! He couldn't think of not meeting his lady love for 92 hours, and now he had to stay without seeing her for 92 full days! He cursed his bloody luck.
He was so engrossed in thoughts, that didn't notice when Rey had signed for the witness from his side and they'd been declared as husband and wife. His father was busy congratulating her father for the brilliant deal he'd made by sacrificing his own son's life.
"Dad, shall we leave?" He yelled, making everything silent.
She shuddered a bit, as her veiled head, bent lower. Kria clutched Rey's arm and Rey gulped. Someone was surely gonna have a tough time! They just prayed that it wasn't her.
"Ye... Yeah, Swayam! Jao tum. Take Shari along with you." His dad tried covering up.
"Shar... What?" He asked flustered.
"Ugh! I mean, take your wife along with you."
"Okay..." He murmured, pondering over what sort of name it was.
He'd heard of names like 'Pari', which meant 'fairy'. But 'Shari'? Does it mean a 'witch'?!
He chuckled at his thoughts and moved out of the court. She followed, without a word.
After sitting in the car, he decided that it was important for him to atleast know her name properly. As he thought that he'd mis-heard it, the first time.
"Umm... Suno!" He began.
She trembled a bit, at his sudden approach. Then whispered meekly, "Ji kahiye..."
He felt devastated. Was it this 'behen-ji' whom he was made to marry? He sighed, closing his eyes. Composing himself quickly, he continued.
"Wo... Tumhara naam kya hai?
"Ji... Ji... Sharanjeet Raiprakash Shekhawat."
Came the response from under the veil.
