Don't try looking for logic in this show! Period
Apparently Mahapadma Nanda was from a low stature and was born of a Shishunaga king (don't remember his name) and a woman from a low class and he became king after killing all the legitimate sons of his father, who could be heirs.
Here they are showing that Padmanand married the last Shishunaga king's wife. Also Chandragupta's consort was Dhana Nanda's daughter. But they are skipping an entire generation and showing Nandini as Padmanand's daughter.
So showing him have an affair with the wife of the previous king and later take her as a wife is no big deal. Just over-dramatization.
They are hastening tracks to accelerate Rajat-Shweta's entry, which everyone's waiting for. But showing the marriage first and rivalry and showing root causes in flashbacks would have made so much sense.
Looks like they paid a bomb to the leads and the set costs and are cutting costs on good writing, direction and supporting actors now.
Like one villain instead of two, Dhana Nanda + Mahapadma Nanda = Padmanand
