Chapter 1: The Pursuit of Freedom
A dark haired lady paced her small prison cell. She crouched down and and gripped the chains attaching her to the wall. She leaned back with all her weight, but she was too light to make the chains even slightly free itself from the wall. She sighed and fought back tears of rage. Those cowards - Mir, Helena, Seleucus, Noor ... all would pay for their betrayal against her. Those savages had done nothing but use her and her daughter throughout this entire game they played. She punched the wall, her bleeding knuckles left an imprint.
"Gah!" she scowled as she repeatedly punched the wall.
"You know, that doesn't really help your situation." A cool, calm voice said from the shadows.
Niharika spun around and eyed the faint silhouette, "Who are you and how did you get in here?"
"Relax Niharika, I'm sure you're already familiar with the person you accused of plotting with your husband and Justin."
"Dharma?" Niharika's eyes widened. A smirk came to her face, "So what are you going to do now? Kill me because I separated you from your precious Bindusar?"
Dharma grinned. "Please, I came to thank you for doing that. That idiot Bindusar couldn't tell left from right. I just needed someone to show me what a worthless loser he really is."
Niharika smiled, "So then, what brings you here Dharma ... or is it..."
"Subhadrangi." She smirked, her beautiful eyes lighting up.
"Subhadrangi. Definitely a better name than Dharma." She laughed. "So what are you doing here?"
"Heard about what happened to you. Looks like that son of a donkey Mir was involved right?"
"Yeah, they lied to me."
"Well, I'm here to break you out and conquer Magadh. The Mauryan Dynasty needs a worthy heir to the throne to step up, and I am giving it my son Ashok!"
Niharika looked up, "So the rumors were true? Ashok really is Bindusar's son?"
"Yep."
"So then let's have an alliance, both filled with revenge and family. I offer my daughter, Ahankara, to your son Ashok."
Subhadrangi smiled, "Let's destroy these forsaken fools once and for all!" She raised her hand for a high-five. Grinning mischievously, Niharika returned the high-five.
"Hey Hey what's all this commotion in there?" A soldier said, approaching the prison cell.
Subhadrangi sunk back into the shadows and Niharika walked towards the front of the cell. As the soldier started to shake the cell door, Niharika's sneered and grabbed the soldier by the throat, choking him to death. "You worthless trash."
Subhadrangi walked up to Niharika and laughed. "Bechara..."
"So how are we going to get out of here?"
"How? Through the front obviously. We aren't cowards to use the back entrance." She unsheathed the sword strapped across her back and with a slice, cut off Niharika's chains. Bending over, she pulled out a small vial of a greenish liquid. "Don't move Niharika, this is dangerous stuff." And she put a few drops on the cufflinks around Niharika's ankles. One second a sizzling sound came, and the next, the links fell off.
"What is this stuff?" Niharika asked.
"Kamukthvani, a special chemical I formulated that can break through metals with ease. It's extremely dangerous though if it touches your skin."
"So we are going to use that kamukthvani on the cell door then?"
"Precisely. The doors are more reinforced than the chains, so we'll have to squeeze through."
Minutes later, both ladies emerged from the cell with wide grins across their face.
"Here," Subhadrangi said, tossing a sheathed sword to Niharika. "Look familiar?"
Niharika unsheathed the sword, and her familiar black-hued sword blade shined as the light from the flame bounced off it. The two ladies walked calmly towards the prison exit, killing anyone who dared to come across their path.
As the approached the end, a soldier stood across their path, his sword at the ready. Subhadrangi shook her head and approached him. Blocking and tossing his sword some distance away, she clenched the soldier's throat and dragged him until they had reached the exit. Niharika stooped down and giving an air kiss, she said, "Give my regards to Bindusar."
Subhadrangi lifted the soldier and stared into the eyes of the soldier. Whispering something into his ear, she pushed him with immense force.
"Tell Bindusar, Subhadrangi's back!"
