To get the 1970's effect in a song for his period film Khoya Khoya Chand, Sudhir Mishra roped in Oscar of the famous Vijay-Oscar duo. The song has been picturised on Rajit Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan and Soniya Jehan.
Mishra says, "I had worked with Oscar for my film Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin. He had done a nice cabaret club song.
At that time there were only two kinds of songs, Indian classical and Western music. I think Oscar is the only person who has the connection with the 50's and 60's songs. He has been in tune with those songs, moves, expressions and sounds from that era. I am extremely happy that he agreed to choreograph the song for Khoya ..."
Oscar was equally delighted to put on his dancing shoes again. The choreographer who immortalised songs like 'Mungda Mungda' in Inkaar (choreographed on Helen), 'Street dancer' in Ilzaam and 'Jaan-e-jaana' in Jaanbaaz, says, "Sudhir is a good director and when he approached me, I had no doubts about doing the song. His vision was very clear. It has been a long time since I choreographed a song and I don't even remember which was my last song. I had to start thinking all over again. It is always nice to work with new people as you are not aware of their strengths and weaknesses. Choreographing for new stars is very challenging."
It took some effort on Mishra's part to find Oscar, a Dadasaheb Phalke award winner, who has been away from the limelight for more than 10 years. Mishra says, "I had to find him since he has not been active of late but I spread the word around and even informed the association of dancers. I found that he conducts classes in Bandra. Although he was not very well and had some problems in his back and leg, I was thrilled when he agreed to do the film. He is in his 70's but as a dancer he is very fit. I wanted that typical song where the leading man is on the piano and the girl is dancing around him."
