IIFA: RDB tops; Hrithik, Rani rule
New Delhi: The IIFA awards concluded in Yorkshire in a glittering ceremony that saw Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's blockbuster hit Rang De Basanti winning the best picture award for the year 2006-2007.
The film, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, stars Aamir Khan, and also won Filmfare's best movie award along with almost a dozen other gongs at the IIFA awards.
Hrithik Roshan walked away with best actor honours for his role in Krrish - billed as India's first superhero movie. "May our children never be afraid to dream the impossible because ... someone like me could get this far," said Roshan, who also won the gong for the most glamorous male lead.
Rani Mukherjee was awarded best actress for her performance in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna – a tale of adultery and extra-marital liaisons.
Lage Raho Munnabhai's Gandhigiri won Raj Kumar Hirani the best director award and Arshad Warsi's Circuit act fetched him the best supporting actor's prize.
The movie also won the best dialogue award.
Rang De Basanti got Soha Ali Khan the best supporting actress award and the film won the best screenplay award too.
Rang De Basanti won a host of other awards too, including best cinematography and best art director .
Yesteryear actor Dharmendra was given the Outstanding Achievement award by Amitabh Bachchan.
The eighth annual IIFA awards took place in the 12,000 seater Sheffield Hallam arena in northern England on Saturday night stretching into the early hours of Sunday as Bollywood's biggest stars celebrated their best films of the last year.
The awards were created seven years ago to promote Indian films to an international audience. Previous ceremonies have been held in the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands and Singapore.
