Ta Ra Rum Pum inspires Rani Mukherji to dedicate the title track to her mother who saw her through hell and back in real life

The clich is that Rani has spent much of her life (and career) under the intimidating shadow of her domineering mother. The latest twist to this relationship is that it is Rani, in fact, who is severely dependent on mommie dearest. So much so, that she has even decided to dedicate the title track of her latest film Ta Ra Rum Pum to her mother. The film is directed by Siddharth Anand and she plays lead actress opposite Saif Ali Khan.
The film by itself echoes Rani Mukherji's own bitter-sweet experiences with life. Rani Mukherji's mother had her share of rough times when Rani's father Ram Mukherji was struggling in his career.
It is an experience that clearly remains with Rani even today, despite the stupendous success she has earned. "The title track Ta Ra Rum Pum sung by Shaan and Mahalaxmi Iyer and stunning composed by Vishal-Shekhar reminds me of my parents, especially my mother," admits the actress.
The financial crisis that her family faced in her formative years required huge reserves of emotional strength and family values. "The credit for who I am today goes to my mom, the way she brought me up. She always smiled through all her problems in life, she never showed any signs of going through hard times, even though my brother Raja and I were aware," she says.
Was Rani affected by these bleak beginnings? "Obviously. I am not a super human being that I would only be having

Ta Ra Rum Pum is about a financial crisis that a woman and her family go through when her husband meets with an accident. "When Siddharth narrated me the script, I could related to that character well. I knew exactly where it was coming from," she says. Speaking about the music in the film, she added, "Vishal and Shekhar have done complete justice to every song because every song is unique in its own way. Javed Akhtar has written fantastic lyrics that truly tell you about the character. These are songs that evoke situations. That is the power of music," she says.
Well, Rani, you've come a long way, baby! And you deserve it. And so does Mum.
