Of all the movies with a prominent role (60 movies), SRK made 14 movies with KJo/YRF...

atominis, if you look at SRK's filmography, he indeed took more than one risk during his career. And yes, the beginning already was risk-taking as such as being a successful TV actor would not have implied to become a successful Hindi filmstar...

I don't know how YRF makes its contracts but usually big production houses book promising actors/actresses (and directors etc.) for a certain amount of movies in advance.

Throughout his career, SRK has done a lot of movies where romance was just a part of the masala...

Yash-ji will be missed. 💔

A lot of us were very sad when he left us 😭

Well, Superhits and better is balanced (7 to 7), but without so many YRF movies, SRK would be a successful actor, too.

I would say, they mutually benefitted.

Outside YRF

(source BOI) :

HappyNewYear = Superhit // ChennaiExpress = Blockbuster // Don 2 = Hit // Ra.One = Hit // MyNameIsKhan = Hit // OmShantiOm = Blockbuster // Don = Hit // MainHoonNaa = Hit // KalHoNaaHo = Hit // ChalteChalte = Hit // Devdas = Hit // KabhiKushiKabhiGham = Blockbuster // KuchKuchHotaHai = All Time Blockbuster // Pardes = Super Hit // Yes Boss = Hit // RamJaane = Hit // KaranArjun = Super Blockbuster

without BOI-label (source Wikipedia):

Baazigar = a major financial success // KingUncle = box office success // RajuBanGayaGentleman = a commercial success // Deewana = a major commercial success

YRF movies

Darr = Blockbuster // DDLJ = All Time Blockbuster // DilToPagalHai = Blockbuster // Mohabbatein = Blockbuster // VeerZaara = Superhit // ChakDeIndia = Superhit // RabNeBanaDiJodi = Blockbuster // JabTakHaiJaan = Hit // Fan = Flop

I find it very interesting that it was ShahRukh (paired with Kajol!) who made both the debutant directors successful (Karan and Aditya) and it were the respective fathers who trusted SRK that much (YashUncle and Yashji).

It's my feeling, too, zehreeli...I thought, that someone who still thinks that SRK wouldn't have become a prominent figure in the Hindi filmindustry and a globally recognized person without KJo and YRF banner still has a one-sided look.

I also think that SRK was meant to become the megastar he is...and it was also a choice he made...he wanted to have success (in another thread someone posted a motivation video done with SRK's voice where he speaks about that drive to be successful)... he would have succeeded with other directors, other banners because it was always a relation between him and the audience. Deewana was his first connection with the film-theatre audience...would it have been Dil Ashna Hai, the impact he made with his first appearance on the big screen would't have been that sensational but he would have connected in the long run... it may have taken more time to make the audience love him. Without Fauji, even the Deewana impact would have been less.

There is a path...for every person, I believe. SRK's one has a lot to do with love. He wanted to be loved, he loves to be loved...and he gave/gives it back. Some other would have persuaded him that he should play romantic roles because of his charme, because of his caring nature.

His work with KJo and YashUncle, with Yashji and Aditya was based on a mutual relationship. SRK proved to even exceed their respective expectations.

HearMeRoar wrote: "Frankly, I think SRK, the actor, lost to the star because of YRF and Dharma. I wish he'd continued his unconventional path."

She is right as he got stereotyped as the "king of romance" (typical media-parlance) through his collaboration with KJo and YRF...and when he tried to explore his talent as an actor/ doing roles against this image, it got rejected by the domestic audience more than once (the appreciation sometimes coming later).

semantic, I think he has more than three pillars ...and no, I don't think that any person of the filmindustry is one of these pillars although there are some that undeniably play a major role in his (acting) life. I feel that his pillars belong to his structure as a person (like the pillars of the old villa he bought as his home belong to its structure): among them are perseverance, drive, talent, industry (hard working), an adventurous and rebellious mind, curiosity, intelligence, charme, loving his work et cetera...

SRK did not "make" them but he gave them successful movies and earned a lot of money for them.

KJo would have inherited Dharma in any way but SRK clearly helped him in getting a positive reputation...that this reputation - during the last decade - got less positive, that credit belongs to KJo himself.

I appologize for my very long posts here but what I try is to not come across as someone who only wants to praise SRK but to value the work he has done which some deny him (see my initial post).

It is clear the SRK's rise is also because of his collaboration with KJo and YRF and Guddu is right that most of his Blockbuster movies are a fruit of that collaboration.

However, it is also clear that this collaboration was fruitful for KJo and YRF.

At the end, it is SRK's personality which is important for the position he has acquired and I won't play the comparison game with other actors...that is not the purpose of this thread.

Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman AVERAGE

King Uncle FLOP

Kabhi Haa Kabhi Naa AVERAGE

Ram Jaane (even clashed with Aamir's AHAT) ABOVE AVERAGE

Don

Don 2 )JUST HITS NOT bb OR atbb UNLIKE DHARMA AND YRF MOVIES)

🤪

Salman and others did 2-3 films of Barjatiya

NOT built their 90% career based on only 2 banners' films doing similar sort of safe romantic films

🤪

Especially Aamir who has worked with flop directors and not just made ATBB films but delivered ever celebrated cult classics.

I'm not responding to those who bring comparisons with other actors and only stick to BOI-verdicts. It is about SRK's career and not other actors' ones.

Yes, Maroon...YashUncle and SRK bonded during the shooting of Duplicate (a special movie in my thinking, btw.) and when SRK saw potential in Karan for doing movies (instead of acting in them) he promised to support him as an actor (and he didn't do that because of DDLJ's success but because of the person he is).

YashUncle mainly agreed to Karans request doing a movie because he knew that SRK would back the movie... directors had/have trust in them!
