I don't hate them.
They strongarmed/lobbied/bribed politicians into passing Copyright Extension Act, called the Mickey Mouse Protection Act among writers.
From Wiki:
The 1998 Act extended these terms to life of the author plus 70 years and for works of corporate authorship to 120 years after creation or 95 years after publication, whichever end is earlier. For works published before January 1, 1978, the 1998 act extended the renewal term from 47 years to 67 years, granting a total of 95 years.
That itself is unfair because works are supposed to enter public domain after they've been in use for so long.
Then they use this to play hardball with the little guy.
Ex. If a fan fic writer says. *Crap. That man looked like Darth Vader*, Disney would (if they found out) sue him to his last penny.
You can't say someone has Mickey Mouse ears in a movie. That's a violation of copyright.
So on and on.
In the rest of the world, copyright is author's life + 50 or 70 years. And they don't generally go after the little guy.
