And there is obviously implied hurtful (if not intentionally homophobic) sentiments in these kinds of memes, which would largely be harmless if it was Ranbir singing Channa Mereya at Deepika's wedding or Deepika singing Channa Mereya at Ranbir's.

On one hand, a lot of these jokes are intended to mock homosexuality

But if making fun of ONE gay man for being hung up on someone is considered making fun of an entire community, that's a very dour attitude.

If we were as a society mature enough about homosexuality...then making fun of Ayan being hung over Ranbir would be the same as making fun of Deepika being hung over Ranbir....but its not true....forget about the conservative east...even the west is not open about homosexuality and a lot of inner jokes and mockery is made.....if we are unsure of something then the best way is to avoid it so that we are not hurting a whole community in the process...

It was made specifically about the person Deepika based on how everyone has perceived her to be. Same with Ayan. No one is mocking the LGBTQ community or Ayan for being gay. People here have made jokes about ranbir and ayan getting covid by being in contact with eachother. I am yet to see any such joke about deepveer/virushka/vickat etc.

People here have made fun about ayan snifing ranbir s underwears . Nobody makes such jokes about other couples

So no people here are homophobic. That's just a fact.

In this context yes it is the same thing. People make jokes about Deepika for being petty. People make jokes about Ayan for being hung up on RK for years and not moving on.

People don’t make covid jokes about deepveer, Virushka, Vickat because these guys are married. Everyone knows they are in contact and susceptible to contagious diseases. Ayan and Ranbir are not a couple so jokes about them getting covid is a gossip fodder because Ranbir has been with Alia for years. Just like before marrying Nick Jonas anything about PC would bring out all the SRK jokes, including jokes about Abram getting another sibling when PC fainted on the set of Bajirao Mastani.
