Bless the heavens...I can always count on you to utter logic....You only need 25-30% of a liver to maintain normal functions. It's why you can donate part of your liver to another. The liver is the only organ that grows back. They can remove 80% of your liver and it will grow back within weeks.
The way he's framed this is miss-leading. Yes, your liver regenerates so if it's damaged there's a good chance that, with lifestyle changes, it will heal. However if his liver was genuinely only 45% functional, and not healing, he would have a chronic liver condition meaning it will continue to deteriorate rather than get better and eventually become cirrhotic. Which means he would, at some point, need a transplant. Hepatitis B, in adults, normally clears up in about three months (with treatment). It is highly unlikely he has chronic Heaptitis B.
