Those who have watched the movie Dhoondhte Reh Jaoge starring Paresh Rawal, Kunal Khemu and Sonu Sood, must know what is the story of the film.

For those who haven't watched the movie, it's about two guys (one director and another chartered accountant) trying to make some easy money by making a Flop film.

Their idea is to find 22 investors who could invest 5 crores each in the making of their film, but make each of them believe that they are the only person investing in the project.

After doing that they would have 105 Crores as the budget of their film. But they only make the film with 5 Crores of budget, and keep the remaining 100 Crores in their pockets. Now they make a film as bad as possible so that it Flops badly and no investor comes to them asking for his share in the profit.

For those who still didn't understand, watch this video to understand in Urdu.

So my question is, does this happen in real in Bollywood or other film industries as well?

Could someone make huge profit by doing such big fraud and get away with it? Maybe not such big fraud, but I suppose it's possible to do it in small scale.

This could solve the mystery of why people keep casting Arjun Kapoor in all those big movies. *hums in detective mode*

Yes, it happens. but unlike this movie, investers go to court to take legal action against fraudsters.

if their investment is black money, they choose other routes to deal with the frauds😆

sometimes flop movies will be made on purpose. Producers show fake profits to make their black money into white.

Sounds like a rip off of Mel Brooks classic film The Producers from 1968 - though there it was a play "Springtime For Hitler" . Unfortunately for them it became a huge hit and they couldn't pay off their investors.

Producers don't need to commit fraud though to make profit off a Flop - at least according to Indian B.O.. Flops and blockbusters are determined by distributors making profit. Lots of films fail to make enough for distributors to break even but still make producers a good or even great profit off the distributor fees, music, OTT, TV and Satellite deals etc. Producers also can get upfront fees so like actors even if the movie tanks they get paid.

Actors get paid upfront and/or a % of the back end. They can't have a financial loss unless they invested in the film. If they're paid just an upfront fee they make the same money whether the film is a flop or an ATB.

That's how money laundering is done through Bollywood. A name that rhymes with Cushion Pukar.....socho socho...if you have the cognitive capacity....how does someone thrive when a normie would struggle to stay afloat after giving flops after flops
