Salman or Aamir: More box-office pull?

I just read this article and am more confused than ever

1. Apparently Salman's films tend to play out strongly at the beginning and to fade relatively quickly.

2. Aamir Khan truly stands head and shoulders above the rest. He makes fewer movies than the other two Khans, with more consistent quality, and it shows at the box office. His average domestic release grosses ₹418 crore—38 percent better than Salman’s ₹302 crore—and his average overseas gross of 502.9 crore is more than 5 times bigger than Salman’s average of ₹97 crore.

What my layman brain has summarized is:

Salman has more fans, but Aamir is ahead in the numbers game. Isn't that a contradiction?

Salman hands down! Aamir is ahead because his script sense is unparalleled - he can sniff a good script a mile away. But when he chooses a bad script (Thugs, Mangal Pandey)- he tanks.

Whereas Salman and his scripts- LOL. Struggling to think of any film outside Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan that had a semblance of a script- and yet look at his track record. People come to watch Bhai alone- film gayi tel lene
