What a great post. Much needed...
I loved Damini. It was one of my first movies. I think Meenakshi was excellent in that movie..we really need more movies like that...there was so much nuance
Rape - right from the woman standing up for another to the court room drama
Classism - how the rich get away unless someone within them doesn’t stand up for it
Husband’s role - eventually a man’s duty is not towards his wife or family, it’s towards what is right and correct, that should come first
Finally the fight to stand up against powerful is a long one, you will lose many things on the way...
as you can see, this movie really shaped my understanding of rape, society and courage. Hats off to the maker. I think in the recent movie makers Anubhav Sinha would do complete justice to a movie like this.
For me PINK is an excellent movie for our generation, it does a great job of drilling concept of consent, but I do think it misses the Hindi speaking belt which needs a remake of Damini.
