So I've finally got around to watching Sanju. It was entertaining to watch but definitely a white wash job.
My main ssue was that I couldn't see passed Ranbir Kapoor and so never got into the film. He did a good job but it didn't feel like Sanjay Dutt but just RK imitating him not playing him. If that makes sense.

yes
that was my prob with this movie too
complete whitewash , did not including any bad shit and completely blamed media
also felt lik it was movie on munna bhai and not sanjay dutt
and evrything is over simplified in the film too.

ranbir acted well, did not feel like sanjay dutt, more like a innocent munna bhai

An thats why the performance was not that good

He is playing Sanjay Dutt the man. Who doesnt behave like that. Not one of Sanjays film characters

I thought his performance was good
As for whitewashing, how would audience relate to him and emphathise if they showed him as a criminal

I see your point however even from watching Sanjay on talk shows, interviews and candid sound bytes we did get a feel of what he is like as a person. Not intimately but at least some essence of him.

Yes they did need to create sympathy for him for the audience to connect.

I'm also disappointed they didn't show his marriages/death of wife/trishala etc as that would've garnered sympathy also.

The Nargis track for me was certainly heart wrenching as well as when his father died.

Sanju was a complete whitewashing film. I felt very guilty of watching and enjoying it because Sanjay Dutt should not get a free pass. They went too far in showing him as a model inmate. The criticism of the media felt dangerous in this "FAKE NEWS" era. Anyone who does not like what is being reported screams it.
Anyway, to me Sanju should have been about a young man's downward spiral into depression and drugs and then somehow finding a way to rise above it. Not just rise above it but get fitness, career, and health on track after it. I feel that this aspect of Sanjay Dutt's life can be presented as a role model without whitewashing. It gives hope to addicts and their families that they can recover. It helps people see that true friendship is not pandering to someone's vices but sticking by them until they can overcome it.

when i watched this movie i was so sure RK will swipe all awards..turns out Ranveer is the clear winner of all awards for padma

with sanju..it is so weird no..like one of those movies which are so appreciated when released and over time the appreciation changes more into criticism..i see a lot more people criticizing it now than when it released
