and for comparing it with Vijay's Sura

Imtiaz Ali's Shah Rukh Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer has brought upon a wave of trolls and memes on social media with people often claiming it to be the "worst movie" coming out of Ali's banner.

Jab Harry Met Sejal (JHMS) released globally on 4 August, last week, and received a lot of flak both from the audience as well as the film critics.

While there are benchmarks being constantly set and broken regarding the worst films so far, JHMS might soon (or probably already has) find a place on the list. Recently, journalist Dhanya Rajendran tweeted to say Jab Harry Met Sejal was worse than Tamil superstar Vijay's Sura, that was released in 2010.

What followed next was a barrage of hate messages, abuses, trolls and threats. The Indian Express, in one of its reports suggests that there were more than 30,000 tweets targeting the journalist with the hashtag, #PublicityBeepDhanya.

On reporting this to Twitter, the hashtag was blacklisted.

Explaining this, Rajendran told The Indian Express, "Twitter India blacklisted the hashtag immediately after I pointed out to them that they can't talk about security for women when there is a hashtag that is an abuse trend. My only problem is I have access to Twitter people, so I could do it. What about so many others who don't?"

Rajendran pointed out that the entire trolling was an organised and planned activity; she shared tweets that were sent to her at 5.40 pm, much before the hashtag started trending.

It is actor Vijay's fans who abused the journalist, not SRK fans.

Journalist Dhanya Rajendran Trolled For Comment On Actor Vijay, Over 63,000 Tweets

Journalist Dhanya Rajendran was viciously trolled after she commented on a film starring actor Vijay

CHENNAI: Chennai journalist Dhanya Rajendran would not have imagined that a casual comment on a movie would provoke vicious trolling on social media. Four persons have been charged for their threats and abuse on Twitter targeting the journalist.

They are believed to be rabid fans of actor Vijay, whose film the journalist had criticized.

On Friday, Ms Rajendran tweeted after watching Shah Rukh Khan's latest release "When Harry Met Sejal" that it was "worse" than Vijay's Sura released seven years ago, because then she had stayed at least till the interval.

She was bombarded by vulgar tweets and threats. There have been around 45,000 tweets over the past three days and a derogatory hashtag trended on Twitter.

The alleged trolls have also dug out her tweets in the past that they say targeted Vijay. Naveen Nandan, a Vijay fan said "Dhanya has every right to criticise the film both as a journalist and as a public person. But she can't be too sarcastic. In our city sarcasm is not welcome."

At one point, the journalist tweeted: "It's clearly organised. There was a planned wave of trolls at the appointed time, 6 pm."

Investigators say based on her complaint, they are trying to identify four people who tweet using aliases. A senior officer said: "We are adopting conventional methods to trace these people. Some have also deleted their accounts".

In a statement, actor Vijay who is known to have political aspirations says, "I respect women. I appeal to not hurt sentiments of women on social media. There's freedom of expression to criticise anyone's film".

The police have booked a case under the IT Act and the Indecent Representation of Women Act among others.

Look at the trolling that the OP tried to do by deliberately changing the article title. This kind of thing should get a warning. Clearly an instigating topic.

The #PublicityBeepDhanya was started by Vijay fans. Please get facts straight.
That being said some SRK fans also targeted her for disliking JHMS.

Whether it is Vijay fans, SRK fans or fans of KRK, abusing anyone for expressing their opinion is unacceptable. You have the right to disagree and express your own counter argument but do so respectfully.

looks like actor Vijay issued a statement..

Days after TNM's Editor-in-Chief Dhanya Rajendran was subject to online sexual harassment and vicious trolling and abuse on social media by alleged fans of Tamil actor Vijay, the star on Wednesday issued a statement urging people to not abuse women and to respect people's opinions.

"I am someone who respects women a lot. Everybody has the right to criticise anyone's film. It is my view that no woman should be spoken of in a demeaning way for any reason or any time. Everyone has to praise womanhood, reads the statement from Vijay.

He also added, "I request that nobody should share hurtful and wrong views about women on social media.

BW fans don't have THAT much SNS credibility or sheer force anymore. Do people even pay attention to their trolling? BW stars ke troll fans, do journalists care about them? Plus the movie has been trolled by everyone, don't feel SRK fans have conducted it. Some of the South fans are close to being like Kpop stans. This must be Vijay, his fans are intense. As south industry grows, the intensity will grow. Not a good sign at all.
