On Friday we saw the release of the much talked about and highly anticipated Salman Khan starrer Tubelight. While the film that received mixed reviews from the critics opened on a decent note within the domestic market, in the overseas territory of U.S.A Tubelight has faced unexpected competition. In fact, DJ Duvvada Jagannadham, a Telugu film which is said to be an action romance entertainer written and directed by Harish Shanka seems to be giving Tubelight a run for its money.

While Tubelight was released across 342 screens in this territory, DJ Duvvada Jagannadham hit just 190 screens. However, despite the screen count of the latter being considerably lower than Tubelight, the film has managed to rake in USD 483,978 [Rs. 3.12 cr] on its opening day. On the other hand Tubelight has managed to draw in just USD 217,037 [Rs. 1.39 cr] almost half if what its competitor collected.

[P]If that wasn't enough, in the case of DJ Duvvada Jagannadham, which stars Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde, just 153 out if the 190 screens booked have reported the data, amounting to an average of USD 3,163 per screen. Simultaneously, Tubelight that apart from Salman Khan also features Sohail Khan and Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, has reported the mentioned collection from 301 out of the 342 screens, amounting to an average of USD 721 per screen.
