Okie, peeps, just wanted to chip in.

Watched Bahubali 2 again todayand Mahendra Bahubali's lack of character arc sticks out like a sore thumb. As soon as Bhallala shoots his mom with an arrow, I found myself flinching at the thought of how Mahendra reacted/responded after that. It was too abrupt and over-the-top.

The transition from a simpleton to a person who realizes his heritage and finally to a powerful warrior has no logic whatsoever. That's one of the reasons why Mahendra, for me, is the weakest character out of the main characters (Amarendra, Devasena, Kattappa, Shivgami, Bhallala Deva, and Bijjala Deva).

Bhallala Deva is the 2nd most powerful warrior of the Bahubali series, so this novice coming and beating him is hard to understand. Amarendra and Bhallala both received world class education and trainingfrom warfare, archery, yielding of various weapons, and self-defense to strategy, politics, law, governance, ethics, and administration. They were far and away the finest groomed Princes.

On the other hand, Mahendra grew up in a small village as a normal youngster would. He did have superhuman strength, but that was it. He was a simpleton at heart who didn't receive such fine education.

I feel SSR should have spent more time in showing how Mahendra was trained by a warrior-priest when he lived with his parents in his village (in Bahubali 1). That would have been more intriguing than the tacky romantic angle between Avanthika and Shivudu.

What do you guys think?

I agree, I felt the same. Bhalla couldn't be defeated easily, he was as strong and powerful as Amarendra Baahubali. I'd have prefered if Mahendra was trained by Devasena and Kattapa after the revelation, elaborated a plan/stategy and acted according to that... 😳

I agree too. I think they did a disservice to Bhalla's character by having him easily defeated by a mere untrained boy. He had strength, yes, but he did not have the skills required to kill Bhalla.

I read this article the other day, by someone who analyzed Mahendra's character and the criticism he usually gets, by saying that Mahendra is by himself, a very impulsive character who makes rash decisions. Everything he does is made on impulse, such as lifting the Shiva lingam, jumping up a waterfall after his hallucination, sleeping with Avantika, and running headlong into Mahishmati to rescue this lady who he knows nothing about. So for his character to rush headlong into battle with Bhalla is not unrealistic for him. It's actually within his character to do so. What's unrealistic is that he'd win the battle so easily. Yes, he struggled and got hurt in the process, but within hours he was able to defeat Bhalla, which I find highly unrealistic.

I understand they were probably out of time in the movie, and although this would be a very risky move which may or may not work, I actually wouldn't have minded if they'd done a Bahubali 3. Bahubali 2 should have ended with Mahendra rushing headlong into battle, but losing drastically due to his lack of skills. He returns injured regretting the loss of so many soldiers, and Katappa tells him that with the help of Devasena, he will train Mahendra to be a skillful and well learned warrior who'd be capable of defeating Bhalla.

Bahubali 3 could have been a movie that focuses on a clever battle strategy that takes months for Katappa and Mahendra to come up with, and a long-drawn yet thrilling battle in which Bhalla is finally defeated by his nephew, and afters a glimpse into Mahendra's struggles ruling the kingdom as he's still pretty inexperienced, and Devasena steps into the shoes of the clever Rajmata who guides her son on the right path, and unlike Sivagami, she doesn't let her personal emotions get in the way of justice. It would've been nice to see a few scenes of Rajmata Devasena. She'd have been so badass in the role, just like Sivagami but way better. 😉

Hayye
Kash aisa hota coz I too wanted a lil more
But iske chakkar me aur 1-2 saal lag jate
Prabhas already gave 5 yrs of his life to the movie
Any more and he'd have entered Guinness world records for dedicating so many yrs to only one franchise😆
