What if someone who never went to school and was not exposed to hindi comes across them. How will they deal with them? Why everything needs to be hindi for their convenience while the rest struggles with it? How is it promoting equality ?

Exactly my point. I am fine with him or any migrant not learning Gujarati. I don't care. We get along super well with Hindi.

And that is why we need a language that connects us. I feel, Hindi is the one. And so, I think along with Local language, Hindi & English should be the one compulsory to learn.

Well, not everything has to be Hindi. But knowing & understanding little basic Hindi will help us connect so much better that any other language.

Not all Gujjus even know perfect Hindi. Many of the village people know tooti footi. My own grandma can't converse in Hindi. We try to teach her. Yet, I would never disapprove of Hindi.

And how would you feel when Nationalized banks do not have services in Gujarati but expect the rural people to do their transactions in Hindi?

If there is local language and English, why is Hindi the third one compulsory? English can't connect?

I cannot speak in my mother tongue properly. Though my mom insists that I should . So with her I converse in my mother tongue, but every where else I use either English or Hindi because majority of people know it even though tooti phooti. I guess every Indian language has threat from English as well not only Hindi. But, if we have strong values, I don't think we will stop learning our own mother tongue. I am learning it now😆

Agree! We love discrimination and even I am made fun of when I cannot count in Hindi, but its okay.

Frankly speaking, there are bigger problems that India has to tackle beside language and we fighting and debating or degrading each other on basis caste, religion, language and color is not helping and ultimately will give us a bad image globally. In era of globalization, we should start accepting people I guess. But that's just my point

Haha teach her some sindhi too. I was pathetic in Bengali, barely passed in it once, my principal was furious what kind of a bengali are u. Thre frustration of education was real 😆 Bengali literatre they used to pick up was really hard to study. Used to envy my friends who studied hindi but I m glad I stuck with it. I would have never been able to read some of the finest bengali literature without knowing the language.

It indeed is and like I said its just politics that the politicians loves to play time and again.Every country has a bad image globally these days though so nothing will happen. 😆

But its not basics the government is trying to promote. Its not just talking in hindi anymore its also writing and reading in Hindi. The only other language available is English. How will a person from another local language medium be able to cope with such situation. They can't read and write in any of those languages. Why can't they do it in their own local language. How is it right for ministers to post in Hindi when all of us can't read Hindi. Are we not Indian enough to know what ministers are writing. How is it right to have billboards, forms and notices printed in Hindi and English none of which is their local languages. Government is forcing everyone to take it up in full form.

If Nationalized banks would have services in English, then also rural people will have difficulty doing their transactions.

My point was more about the spoken language. At everyone should know to converse in Hindi. It connects us.

PS -- Sorry if I came across rude about using the word 'separatists views'. Realized it wasn't the proper way to argue. Apologize.

Edit -- Looks like. That will be it from my side. No more posts left. Adios. This one can go n on. And I also don't have enough time at hand. See you all in some other discussion or thread.

And who is saying they should have only English? Local language(s) and English. Even local languages by themselves is fine too.

But that's not what's happening. Nationalized banks have had people who spoke only Hindi. Customers were expected when coming to them to interact in Hindi. In cities, the people who know English (and not Hindi) can go to the English-speaking representatives. But what about rural people? They know their local language and cannot get services.

Why does Hindi connect Indians though? Why should it be Hindi? It is a regional language which was chosen to be the so-called 'connecting' and 'pan india' language. And if you say everyone should be able to converse, I don't agree to it. But even if that were the case, it would never stop there and you know it and to say it would is ignoring the reality and policies.

Hindi is what's replacing the local languages. You can see it in the way tickets, airplane announcements, highway markers, etc etc have all moved to Hindi.

Thanks you for the apology.

Really?
This film is bigger hit than Dangal in Hindi, which was the biggest blockbuster of this decade.

Babuhalli is once in a life time film, South can never compete with Bollywood.

ok so i am clarifying few things here and i am quoting the constitution ...

union of states doesnt mean agreement between the states unlike american federation . there is a difference between union of states and federal state.
as per our constitution-
1- indian federation is not the result of agreement between the states
2-component units have no freedom to secede from it or claim sovereignty .

Who is talking about US federal state here? Who is talking about secession and sovereignty.

Union of States is to mention India was the coming together of separate states who had their own language, culture, etc etc.

Education was removed from State List, and that is one big issue.

No u didn't say to learn but I m just speaking about the problems with learning Hindi. Eventually everyone will forget their own mother tongue. Like u said we have no time to keep learning all languages. We have to study actual subjects too This is why people are giving up on their mother tongue and moving to other languages. Thus killing the local languages slowly. Learn Hindi in India. learn English outside India. Since no one cares about my mother tongue its better to forget about it.Thats the attitude now.

People from all mediums are looked down upon. We love discriminating people that way. Nothing special with Hindi. They will treat u the same if u come from any other local language.Sometimes even I get hate for coming from an english medium school 😆 Apparently I m not Indian enough if I can't read hindi properly.

This isn't exactly in reply to Sindhu, but because I'm going to just post this last time and not bother again unless something really pisses me off.

@bold puts it in right there. What happens with the current system, as she pointed out in this reply and earlier post is that due to the importance given to Hindi, people will choose to study Hindi over the mother tongue, because of the Indian government's various policies and implementation which I have mentioned before.

The policies and actions of the Union government are designed to relegate the local languages to lowest class. The Indian Railways Act says it in writing, and that's the truth.

Once the local languages become largely lower class, it is easy to then ignore and subjugate any demands for recognition and rights to those languages.

As for what the policies, actions and implementation of the Union gov't are, not going to bother repeating it again, it's posted all over this topic.

Peace.
