You are going on about English being the future, but then have some problem with opposing Hindi imposition. Sweden, Norway, Iceland and many other countries have large populations who know English, still they are not going away from their own languages. But even so, if English is the future to you and nothing else matters, then what is your issue when Hindi is opposed if English is going to take over all of it anyway.

Kids can survive without Hindi, and if they need to or want to, they will learn. No one is stopping anyone from learning Hindi if they want. But imposed learning leads to imposed implementation on non-Hindi states.

OMG WOMAN!! WHAT DO YOU WANT? NOW YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ENGLISH TOO? GUESS WHO SAID IMPOSTION OF ANY LANGUAGE IS WRONG!! BUT WHAT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND IS NO ONE IS IMPOSING IT ,PLEASE PROTEST AND GET IT OUT OF YOUR LAND AND BE HAPPY!!
EVERYONE LIVING IN INDIA WANTS THEIR KIDS TO KNOW BASIC HINDI EXCEPT FROM THE SOUTH!! MOSTLY EVERYONE NOW A DAYS CONCENTRATE ON ENGLISH(WORLD LANGUAGE) AND ALSO INCOURAGE THEIR KIDS TO LEARN OTHER LANGUAGES!!
WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM YOU CAN'T TELL SOMEONE THAT THEIR KIDS WILL BE FINE DOING WHAT YOU WANT!! IT.S HIS/HER PERSONAL CHOICE!! USKI MARZI
YOU NEED TO STOP IMPOSING!!

Frankly, I find it hilarious that North Indians are called ignorant of the South when ya'll are the ones that keep referring yourself to as South Indians.

Bahubali is a Telugu movie, it's as much of a Marathi film as it is Tamil. Yet all the South Indians want to take credit for it. A Bengali film is a Bengali film, a Marathi Marathi but a massive Blockbuster Bahubali is South Indian just so everyone can stick it to other regions.

Yeah, South Indians are the ones who don't know Baahubali is a Telugu film with Telugu directors and actors and from Telugu industry. Okay.

Goes to show again the mindset of the people who are 1) claiming hatred by me/South to North 2) defending Hindi imposition and chauvinism.

I think you're missing the point too. First, you made his North vs South. It's not. The shoving 'Hindi' down everyone's throats is a problem in most non Hindi states, not just the south. Punjab for one has vehemently opposed Hindi forever. In fact speaking Hindi in Punjab is looked down upon, you're called a 'Bhaiya' and what not. But the fact is it's still the most widely spoken language in India, for now, until eventually English takes over and unlike some fundamentalists I don't believe Hindi is much of a threat to any other language. Bengali will always rule in WB and Tamil in TN, even if they learn some Hindi in school. If I had kids and lived in India I would want them to learn English, Hindi and my mother tongue, not because the Center says so but because it would help them in life.

To keep it short, I feel the hostility towards Hindi is rooted in fear that it will wipe out your or any other states own language but the threat is non existent because like I said before, the future is English and the world is shrinking. Hindi will be regional just like any other language in the future. But for now, learning Hindi can't hurt.

Sorry to interrupt. I agree with you, Punjabis are not Hindi guys (though northwest). Yes, South people don't have knowledge of Punjabi stars, just like you don't know southern stars. But don't you think knowing each other (subtitling the movies) is better than knowing through ghatia remade Bollywood movies? (At least, that is what was my point in the beginning).

At bold; According to me, that is not the reason for hostility (Hindi imposition). Developed states have to deal with mass immigrating from other states. Main discontentment in these states are due to the fact (IMO) that, immigrated communities are not assimilating with the native population. It is happening because of Hindi. Say for example, if a Punjabi settles in Mumbai or Bangalore, he would not bother to learn the local language as he thinks he can manage with Hindi. These cities are facing lot of influx of people from other states. Natives are less than 50%. Hence insecurities (native culture eroding) rise. Such insecurities rise in western countries too (when immigrated population does not integrate).

Earlier Hindi was not prominent in south. Those who settled here (like Marwaris) used to learn local language. It does not happen now. Hence anger over Hindi.
Compulsory Hindi teaching in school is useless.

And it's not just telling, then comes the superiority and high-handedness, in HOW DARE they oppose this? We are doing this for their own good. They have no say over their language implementation, it should be what WE decide/say is best.

@bold.. This ...
TBH, I never got or understood earlier about why TN is so rigid about influence of outside states in some aspects.. especially the language.. But as I got older I finally understood.

Tamil is still ruling in TN because the people keep it that way by resisting. I mean, try talking to the auto drivers there in Hindi and see the response you get.

In comparison, you have Bangalore, where if there is some shopkeeper or driver who doesn't know Kannada, the attitude is not one of "I don't know it yet, but I am trying to learn Kannada" but one of "Well, I speak in Hindi, and I am waiting for you to reply back in Hindi"

Why is Hindi needed to "survive"? I thought the language of survival to live and work as a global citizen is English?

On topic, I agree, and not just in terms of film industry, In general the South gets a raw deal from the "national media" based out of Mumbai and Delhi. Case in point : the Chennai floods coverage.

Migration is one thing. People can migrate, people can maintain their culture. It has happened over many years.

But what is happening is that services are not provided for language that of the state. Jobs, applications, services are provided without local language AND people are tested on the knowledge of Hindi for jobs.

South have always opposed Hindi imposition even before mass migration. The difference was, they didn't see the danger of being complacent with English as the other official language of the Union. Instead, Union has taken over many categories and state has little to no say in services in their own states, and then Centre gives precedence to Hindi over local language.

To put this akin to xenaphobia is missing many details. Pubjabis in the South who have been in Southern states for decades, still maintain Punjabi culture amongst themselves, there is no problem. Same for other cultures. But they also learnt the language of the local area.

In Western Countries, the nation-state's languages are not being denied services in Banks, Railways, Airports, etc etc.

Yes. And it must be repeated by me. Even Tamil Nadu hasn't escaped. Notices in banks in Hindi and English, ATM in Hindi and English, Airport personnel with no Tamil knowledge but Hindi, Railways, Flights out of TN not having Tamil but Hindi, etc etc.
