Raveena Tandon has supported Jaya
Bachchan's statement and stance in the
Rajya Sabha. Not long ago, Jaya Bachchan
had lambasted Bharatiya Janata Yuva
Morcha member Yogesh Varshney in the
Rajya Sabha when the latter had declared an
Rs 11 lakh bounty for Bengal CM Mamta
Bannerjee. In her criticism Jayaji had said,
"How dare somebody talk like this and
especially against a woman? When today
women are feeling really insecure. Is this
what you should be promoting? Aap log to
saare akhbaron ko control karte hai, to iss
tarah ke news kaise chap jata hai."
Her statement of, "You can protect cows, but
what about women?" resonated with many
women across the country. Likewise,
Raveena Tandon, who's always been an
open supporter of the fight for women's
rights and equality, has come out in support
of Jaya Bachchan's stand. Raveena's next
film Matr is a hard hitting take around
motherhood and women as well. She told an
online portal, "I know her (Jaya Bachchan)
quote and I strongly support and stand by
her. I do believe that the government has
come and gone and changed but
somewhere it has not made a difference as
far as women security and safety is
concerned. I strongly believe that if there
can be a law passed, a life sentence for
killing a cow then definitely a stronger and
harsher law should be for the protection of
women. They should prove to be a deterrent
to these criminals and they should think not
once but ten times before even thinking
about doing anything like this. And yes,
Jayaji in the Rajya Sabha said this and I am
very proud of her... that someone is raising
that kind of voice."
