I'll not say that Salman is a non-actor, but he's an average actor at best. Even after 25 years of career, he doesn't had many great performances to boast off. Some of his great performances are in MPK, HAHK, Tere Naam. His roles in Wanted and Dabangg were tailor made for him. His performance in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan were good, but not award winning. People like him mostly because of his looks, body, screen presence and charishma. Though his acting skills also play some part in it. The problem with Salman is, he mostly plays himself in movies and that's why he got the talk the tag of a non actor, which he is not. But anyways, people don't really care about acting. Otherwise, Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddique would have been the biggest superstars of bollywood.

ohhh..put my 2 favourite against each other..won't comment on the topic but I just want to say I find salman better than actor than aamir,akshay,Ajay etc..acting isn't about frowning face like bajirao,it's making a character relatable...And varun,srk and salman are better to me compared to their contemporaries cause I find their acting relatable...irfan Khan,Rk,RS acting are not my taste.
