DP as Alizeh in ADHM

so I was thinking Anu did a nice job of playing Alizeh. From lonely carefree rich brat to fool for love to complicated women who learns love is not every thing, there are multiple shade to this charecter. And let us not forget the gorgeous KJO styling. As I watched Tamasha it struck me Tara was fool in love too but with Ved. Whereas Alizeh wanted only friendship,there is a natural arc to her characterization that goes from Tara to Alizeh.

I think KJo always wanted Ranbir and Anushka for their roles. He mentioned it in several interviews that his observations of Ranbir-Anushka's offscreen banter on the sets of Bombay Velvet led him to believe that they would suit the roles best, and the promotions of ADHM showed that Ranbir and Anushka had a very strong buddy vibe which reflected on screen too.

As far as DP playing Alizeh goes, I think Deepika's strength lies in emoting with her eyes. Her eyes conveyed all the pain in Tamasha. The first half of ADHM has Alizeh being chirpy and bubbly, something DP isn't too great at (Break Ke Baad type)... but from the part where Alizeh meets Fawad part is something I feel DP could have pulled off well. So would DP have played Alizeh better than Anushka did? Not sure. I think she would have played it differently. She would have aced the angsty part of the role but would have lacked in the filmy and bubbly part, which is Anushka's forte.

That being said, if your question were the other way around, I think Anushka wouldn't have done as great a job in Tamasha as DP did. Personal opinion here, but I can't connect with Anushka in emotional scenes as well as I can with Deepika. The before Agar Tum saath ho scene is something DP just owned... every emotion conveyed connected. Probably Deepika's best role to date for me.

Anu did a fine job there IMO

Anu was best Alizeh ever. DP would have spoiled it totally. To play a girl who constantly rejects Ranbir , itnee acting DP se nahi ho sakti hai jee.

also, the kind of chemistry KJO wanted to reflect on screen is not the kind DP and RK share. Anu and RK have that buddy romance type chemistry.

ADHM promotions were fun. Thank god Anu has secure love life and they don't ship Anu-RK

Ps . i also forgot to mention i dont think KJO would have offered DP the role... the movie was announced in Nov 2014... he cud have easily taken DP or whoever he wanted if he wanted to

Even if KJo didn't want Anushka for this role, the next person he would choose would definitely not be DP. For some reason, the guy just does not like her. Heck he kept trashing her during YJHD days even though she was his female lead then...so he'd choose her only if he was utterly desperate for a hit movie and thought that DP could give him that
