This friend of mine also got her twins last year. They did try surrogacy for 3-4 yrs in the US before that but it didnt work out, I didnt ask for details but this is what she told me.

Obviously the state she lives in allows surrogacy, it differs from state to state here.

This new law is discriminating against gay couples, NRI couples, live-in couples, single parents who want a kid of their own.

The Govt is only considering what is so called "normal couples" to them...hetero couples who have been married for 5 yrs at least.

And that too those couples can have surrogates only thru willing close relatives, how ridiculous is that scenario? How many close relatives will be willing to do that for a childless couple?

Adoption is extremely difficult process in many western countries. A friend of mine tried to do that before opting for surrogacy and both of them had highly paid jobs but they still couldnt qualify. From a good credit history to background check, criminal check, assessment check and several interviews later they were rejected.

And then there are cases of foster homes. There was a famous case in Canada. A pakistani family mom dad and two daughters. Mom dad had a disagreement and daughter dialled 911. The whole issue got blown out of proportion and the dad was sent away and kids were sent to social services. Mom dad ended up getting divorced and both kids were placed seperately. The older daughter was sexually abused by her caucasian foster parent. She started having pimples, grew weight and was getting into trouble with the law due to shop lifting. Both kids were bounced from one foster home to another and were sexually abused. The case took like 5+ years and then some community volunteers raised a fundraiser to take in the kids and tend to them.

*THIS* exactly ------ blanket ban on surrogacy will do only this ---- welcome the *black market* on surrogacy --- anyone who is familiar with India & it's corruption will never go for complete ban since it only leads to black markets with no rules or regulations --- i would rather prefer stricter guidelines over such bans ----- India has man power yet they opt for such bans than use the population & man power for stricter rules & making sure they are followed ---!!!!

True that! India has to first actively work at eradicating corruption which is seeped into the system so deep...By putting bans and prohibitions on things, you are only making some people more powerful and rich! First how about banning all kinds of corruption!

If gov *bans* corruption, how are they going to fill in their empty pockets ------ *😛*

Though on serious note ----- corruption is one of the biggest reasons of exploitation in India ------ Bjp keeps issuing non sense banning but won't do anything substantial for things like corruption -- *still awaiting acche din*

I think its a right decision. It protects the surrogate mother, the child ( the most important) and medically cleared couple who cant have child are given this option. There is a reason adoption agency gives preference to married couple as they have the best intention for the child in mind. And child's well being should be the supreme concern.

This thread has gone too far and cannot read it all.

But yes I had heard first about surrogacy in CCC and then next when SRK got Abram. I tried reading a lot about it then because I could not digest the fact that SRK openly did something which Raj did secretly in the movie 😆 There were a lot of varieties of surrogacy and so could not understand who did what 😆
