"Akshay Kumar is my favorite brother in Bollywood"
Bollywood heartthrob and handsome hunk Sidharth Malhotra will be next seen in an upcoming film Kapoor and Sons. The film features an ensemble star cast of Alia Bhatt, Fawad Khan, Sidharth Malhotra and Rishi Kapoor. Kapoor and Sons is a simple story of a normal middle-class family comprising of 2 brothers played by Fawad and Sidharth. Produced by Karan Johar under the banner of his production house Dharma Production's and directed by Shakun Batra, Kapoor and Sons releases on the 18th of March 2016.
In an interview with Cinespeaks, Sidharth Malhotra speaks about his new film.
Q : How was the experience of working with Fawad Khan?
Sidharth : Fawad is a great guy to work with. He is a very good actor and is very relaxed. His coordination with actors was absolutely fantastic while shooting for Kapoor and Sons. I think we are looking like brothers who are very homely and from a normal family.
Q : Can you share a little about your character from the film?
Sidharth : I am playing Arjun Kapoor, who is the youngest child in the family. Fawad is playing my elder brother who is very successful and stays in London. I am a light hearted guy who stays in America and is a struggling writer. I am very close to Rishi Kapoor since he also stays with me. I could personally relate to the film and my character since I have an elder brother in real life. It is a simple story of a normal middle-class family. We haven't shown anything larger than life, but it is a mixture of all the emotions with a realistic approach.
Q : Is it easy to work with Alia since you share a good rapport with her off screen?
Sidharth : Yes, It was great working with Alia. Working with a known actress gives you an opportunity to improvise yourself. We can make scene's entertaining. But, the same doesn't happen when we work with an actor whom we don't know personally.
Q : What is that one similarity between the Malhotra and Kapoor family?
Sidharth : I think the dinner table scene's are pretty much the same. In Malhotra family, our Dad used to discuss our studies and we both would see as what our Mom has cooked for us? We share the same room after returning home after 5-6 years. The fun and fight's which take place while staying together is also similar.
Q : Do you celebrate Women's Day? Who is the most important women in your life?
Sidharth : Honestly speaking, I don't celebrate Women's Day and I feel it's a new age phenomenon. In fact, people should celebrate the most iconic and hardworking women once a day in a year. I like to be very relatable with my Mom. She is very important to me. My grandmother too is very special to me. She used to narrate mythological stories which have greatly influenced me over the years.
Q : Did you feel insecure with Fawad Khan while shooting?
Sidharth : There is no question of feeling insecure or uneasy since Kapoor and Sons is a very light hearted film. When I agreed to do the film, I knew it was a small role of a younger brother who is very goofy. I feel insecurity comes when 2 actor's are pitching for the same zone and when there is a concept of a 2-Hero thing.
Q : How was the experience of working with Rishi Kapoor?
Sidharth : Rishiji is a complete foodie and would discuss a lot about food with Fawad. They would talk about Kebab's and different kinds of food from Lahore and Karachi. He wouldn't used to enjoy my company since I turned vegetarian for a few months while shooting. Fortunately, Rishiji and I have plenty of scene's since he is very close to his grandchild in the film. He loves to do all child like things with me like learning an IPad and so on. It was great working with him and he still treats me like his student.
Q : Who was the most mischievous on the sets?
Sidharth : I think I was the most mischievous since I knew everybody very well. I have known Shakun for a very long time and Alia too. Fawad and I got along very well and Rishiji was also very close to me. I was the one who would bring the entire crew together and we played Cricket and Football. We had a bonfire on the last day of the shoot and we enjoyed very much. I had organized a small party for the lightmen and the crew who had worked very hard on the film.
Q : You are doing back to back film's with Dharma. So, has it become your comfort zone?
Sidharth : I belong to a part of the Dharma's talent wing and we are the one's who are offered scripts first. So, if there is a good script which comes my way, then why would I let it go off? Shakun has been looking for casting of actors since 2 years and I was the first person to sign this film.
Q : Is Student of the year sequel on the cards?
Sidharth : I don't know about the sequel, but may be there are planning for it. I think there will be new and fresh faces in the film.
Q : Who is your favorite bro in Bollywood?
Sidharth : Akshay Pajji (Akshay Kumar) is my favorite bro. I share a good equation with him and is a very senior actor. He is protective too in that sense and there is a feeling of an elder and younger brother. With Fawad, I share a more of a friendly equation since we belong to the same age group.

I prefer a better role to money: Sidharth Malhotra

Siddharth Malhotra may not have a Bollywood lineage to claim, but his careful selection of characters makes it clear that for him, what roles he plays are more important than money.
Needless to state, treading according to his intuitions and choosing varied roles, his professional graph is gradually moving towards the top. Recalling his Bollywood debut in Student of the Year, Siddharth says, "We were nervous facing the cameras for the first time in Student of the Year.
However, the little experience as an assistant director helped me perform to the best of my ability." He adds, "Money is important, but I read my scripts to know the weightage of my role, not my screen presence or run time in the film. I prefer a better role to money."
He has been dreaming to buy a sea-facing house that can accommodate his big Punjabi family from Delhi. "It has been my desire for a while to buy a sea-facing bungalow or flat," he says.
And for Alia Bhatt, he is all praises. "Alia has an expressive face; she has improved a lot since Student of the Year. I wish I, too, was so involved like her. She talks about acting at home with her dad, mom and friends. She has become an intense person by now. She always loves to learn more when it comes to acting and is very passionate about her work. I have a great admiration and respect for her."
Are there any actresses with whom he wants to work with? "Yes", he says, adding, "I have almost worked with actresses who are of my age, but not with Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma. And I have not signed any film opposite Deepika; that's all rumours."
Well, putting another rumour to rest, Siddharth confirms, "I am not doing Ram Lakhan remake; it has not been offered to me. I have been offered a film by FOX Production House, which is not a sequel to Bang Bang either, so I am not replacing Hrithik. In fact, I am doing a film titled Baar Baar Dekho, which is based on time travel. I am happy to portray the journey of a man from his 18th year till he turns 60. I had to sit down for prosthetics for the aged look; it was really tough, but the role is very interesting. It's a romantic role this time and I'm not bromancing' like I did in Brother. I am pairing up with Katrina Kaif for the movie."
On his future course of action, Siddharth asserts, "After the release of Kapoor and Sons, I have to rush to London for my next shoot. Now, I am only doing a yet-to-be-titled action film and Baar Baar Dekho."
