Why are movie theaters so expensive? 8 bucks for a bucket of popcorn, f**king really? That shit couldn't cost more than a $0.25 to produce. The tickets are honestly overpriced as well.

I feel like some shitty financial decisions (overpaying actors, etc.) upstream are putting pressure on movie theaters so that the only way they can get by is by f**king over their customers.

Pisses me off too! I couldn't agree with you more. $10 or sometimes more for a ticket. And food prices are insane!

By the time I get done with parking, tickets, two drinks and one popcorn for my gf and I it's like 70 bucks where I live. Then generally grab something to eat before or after at a restaurant. Shit gets expensive fast.

For my family (4-5 of us) it's at least $150 to watch a movie.

Popcorn + 1 drink + 1 candy = $20.00 plus taxes which is 13 percent.

(i don't eat popcorn and all but family does)

Ticket is 13 bucks. plus tax.

Parking 10 bucks.

and then I have to play in the arcade, that's a must..

But anyways, Salman Khan makes it worth it at the end, and that's the only time we go in family.

and yeah, I will never understand why theatres rip you off with their food. It doesn't even cost 10 cents, forget 25 cents. If I were to own a cinema, I would make food damn cheap. Stupid people.

Essentially, theaters make as little as 20-30% of the total revenue from the movies they show, with the rest going to the studios, due to uneven financial negotiations (studios get around 90% of the revenue from a movie in its first week of release, which diminishes over subsequent weeks with more money going to the theaters). This causes cinemas to seek money from other areas, and concessions are the logical choice -- the studios can't touch them, and they can mark them up to the point where they're actually profitable. This price-gouging actually keeps theaters in business, believe it or not, since they don't make a lot from the movies themselves.

the movie prices seem fair to me. its around ten dollars canadian where i live, movies are half price on tuesdays, 13.99 for reserve seating, i think thats fair for the experience. and when it comes to popcorn, dont buy it if you dont wanna spend the money lol. just sneak a few candy bars or snacks in ur pockets or purse. doesnt have to be that expensive. if ur going for dinner after or before who needs popcorn
