Baahubali in Oscars race?
The five member Oscar selection panel under the head of its jury and popular filmmaker Amol Palekar, is in Hyderabad to scrutinize over 45 films and select India's official entry for the upcoming Academy Awards. As per the latest reports which quoted the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce's announcement, Baahubali is the official entry from the Telugu film industry.
Baahubali will be competing with Bollywood biggies like Aamir Khan's PK, Anurag Kashyap's Ugly, Vishal Bhardwaj's Haider and Priyanka Chopra's Mary Kom, apart from a spate of low budget indie gems like Masaan, Kaaka Muttai, Umrika etc.
The last official Telugu entry to the Oscars was K Viswanath-Kamal Haasan's Swati Mutyam. We will have to wait until September 25th to know about the final selection.

ok if it does get selected as India's official entry for Oscars (its a long shot) - but if it does - whats ur take girls?
it has its pros and cons..but I would say these kind of movies are what makes us proud about our cinema..it is more Indian at heart..and has a soul in it..
For me it depends on what quotients they're looking for. Films like Masaan, Kaaka Muttai, and Umrika are not entertainment films, they're social awareness films (again nothing wrong with that but is that what these committees are looking for?)
If the committee is looking for entertainment, vision, story, technology, visual effects, growth of Indian cinema...etc then yes Baahubali aces all these areas tremendously.
Also for films like Masaan, Kaaka Muttai, Umrika, and other films of that nature their real win is not an Oscar nomination/win but good Box Office records and a change that takes place because of the influence of their film.
Because Baahubali nails every area it's a great film to show how far we've gotten as an industry and not to mention the film itself is inspired from a lot of Indian epics, what better way to show that than Baahubali? Also Baahubali's success was a nationwide achievement so why not?
