Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has been part of several hit item numbers " whether it was Marjaani' (Billu; 2009) or Fevicol' (Dabangg 2; 2012). Now, she is making waves with her latest dance number, Mera Naam Mary, in filmmaker Karan Johar's Brothers, which is a remake of the Hollywood film, Warrior (2011).
Here, we catch up with the actress to chat about her love for such songs, her young fans in Bollywood, and more.
Sidharth Malhotra recently said that he wishes there was a younger version of you, so that he could date her...
There can't be any other Kareena (laughs). And it is not due to anything else, but because I strongly feel that everyone should have their own personality. I read that interview, and I feel it's a compliment. I felt very special. He (Sidharth) is a dear friend, so we can chat and meet, but, obviously, he can't date me (smiles).
Unlike your contemporaries in the film industry, you have done several items songs in your career. Why?
I love song and dance sequences; they're very important to me. I think dancing and singing, especially in Hindi movies, is the main thing that attracts audiences. That, in fact, helps a film a lot, specially if it is a commercial movie. And of course, I enjoy doing item songs. I think they are about looking and feeling great, being in great shape, and I think the new item number has been shot amazingly.

Do you feel any kind of pressure every time you work on a new item song?
I don't take any pressure, because, honestly, I really enjoy doing such songs. I have always had so much fun doing them. If I don't enjoy doing something, I won't do it. The idea is not to feel the pressure, but to have fun. When the audience sees that the actor [in the item song] is having a blast on screen, the viewers, too, automatically start enjoying the song.
Recently, while you were holidaying in London, UK, Salman Khan jokingly said, during one of the promotional events for Bajrangi Bhaijaan, that you were "already enjoying the success" of the film...
I know that it's a beautiful film, and it's going to do extremely well. Our last film, Bodyguard (2011), was a hit. People are waiting to watch us act together again. There are a lot of expectations, and I think we have done our bit. After 15 years, my entire family including my parents, my sister, her kids and my grandmother had decided to go on a trip. So I couldn't back out of the vacation. Anyway, such a [big] film needs to be promoted only for a week; it doesn't need more time than that.
You have become very choosy about your work of late. What made you take up an item song?
The track is very catchy. The way Karan Malhotra (director) and Ganesh Acharya (choreographer) have shot it is great. Most people think that item songs are looked down upon because, they find these songs raunchy, but this song is not like that. This one has a lot of innocence in it. Also, to me, Karan's (Johar; film-maker) production house is like my second home. So, when he approached me, I couldn't say no.
