Director Syed Ahmad Afzal's film Youngistaan, starring Jackky Bhagnani and Neha Sharma, has made it to the Oscar long list as an independent entry.
Youngistaan, a remake of Telugu film Leader, revolves around the story of a young boy, Abhimanyu Kaul, who finds himself in the political spotlight after the sudden demise of his father, who was the Prime Minister of India. Jackky's role is reportedly based on Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.
Youngistaan captures the journey of an amateur Abhimanyu, who eventually leads a political legacy and changes the course of events with his honesty and hard work. The film also depicts the complications in his personal life due to his professional commitments.
Youngistaan also stars late actor Farooq Sheikh and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.
The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 15, 2015.
