The film is an action thriller and remake of Telugu super hit Dookudu'. Telugu film stared Mahesh Babu in lead role and released in September 2011. After the failure of his last remake film Himmatwala', Ajay acted overly cautious and asked for a fresh script from Prabhudeva.

Though the film is the remake of a South Indian film, the title is taken from a hit 1988 American film.
