On Katrina's open letter to media, Deepika had said: "It has never happened with me. I believe if you are a celebrity or public figure... these things are bound to happen. And I don't think you can accuse anybody of anything. If I am a public figure and if someone has captured me then I feel I should have been a little careful."
I don't oppose deepika on what she is stating now; that the media needs to respect women and not showcase their body in a way when is a demeaning. In fact, I completely agree with it.
But wasn't she the one to state that these things, like leaked pictures, are bound to happen when you are a public figure? Then why was what happened to Deepika today different to what happened to Katrina?
Why is deepika opposing it today when she advised Katrina that if someone has captured her in a way which Katrina did not like, then Katrina should have been a little careful, instead of blaming the media?
I know what a lot of DP fans would state; these are two different issues and the issue here is not privacy but disrespect to a women. But then why did Deepika oppose Katrina when Katrina was seeking her respect from the media?
I think there are numerous videos, all over youtube, with media highlighting several celebrities cleavage, before and after DP joined bollywood, including Deepika's.
Deepika was aware that this would happen to her and it had happened to her before. She knew as a celebrity that these things happen and no, it's not right. No, it can never be justified and she is not wrong for opposing it. However, when she blantly told Katrina, through the media, that these things happen and public figures should be prepared for it, its a bit hypocritical of her to do the same now. And no, what happened with her or what happens with all actresses is not right and can never be. Its about being a hypocrite.
To quote a popular magazine:
Both incidents were an infringement of celeb privacy but celebs are aware of the fact when they come into the business of glamour. The media, shouldn't hit below the belt, but celebs need to keep in mind that they are in a business where people will talk about every aspect of their life. Their personal self no longer remains personal and they are pretty aware of this fact when they join the film industry. We think Katrina's incident required more celebs to stand up against the paparazzi, where she was at a private holiday, as opposed to Deepika being at a public event (at a Chennai Express press event) during her incident. Deepika's social presence made her incident flare up more and celebs also supported her a lot while Katrina's got pushed aside because of her non-presence on social media platforms.
The article does not state deepika's views on Katrina's incident but it does draw similiarties between the incidents. If Deepika opposed Katrina writing a letter to the media, why is she doing the same now? It seems that Deepika got served her own medicine to me. And she did not like it one bit.
Please do not turn this into a bashing contest. It is purely for discussion purposes.
