Byomkesh is supposed to be intelligen tlooking, and most important, should look Bengali. That too early Kolkata Bengalis. SSR is not even close and also I don't like his acting or screen presence. I don't know what made Dibakar Banerjee choose him.

lol view based on regional chauvinism. Few facts.

1. Bomkesh Bakshi is a fictional character.

2.
Tell us major distinctive feature that differentiate between say SSR
and bengali man. Are they different race , are they different colour or
what ?

3. Movie is based on Hindi .

4. When a mithun can
play a role of south indian can play many hindi character, when konkan sen , rani , kajol , nutan and
endless list play different character from different locality then why
cant a person play a fictional bengali character.

May be u should read the history little bit more bcoz regional chauvinism shows in bad light in a open forum.

Eg. Bimol roy can create magic with do bigha jameen with balraj sahani may be he did not think like u .Balraj sahani base is from lahore , a punjabi played a great role of sambhu mahato (bengali character) and movie based mostly in culcutta. Lol meanwhile TM changed topic and subject everything.

Because Sushant can't look convincing enough to play Byomkesh Bakshi. If there is a dearth of Bengali actors then atleast they could have cast a convincing actor. Sushant will be funny as Byomkesh. Its a period film. One has to look 'very' Bengali to portray it.

What does 'very' Bengali means? Can you please elaborate? Does it mean they have four legs, three eyes or something?

exactly its like saying HR shouldn't have played Akbar (a Muslim) they should have had a "Muslim" playing the role or they should have only Punjabi actors playing Punjabi roles...🤪

as you said its a fictional character no issue...😆

Bengalis do not belong to a separate race. They do not have distinct facial features which would clearly differentiate them from the rest, like say, someone from the north east. What helps is the styling and the right pronunciation of certain bengali words. As long as the actors are styled right and work on the language, an Aishwarya is able to pull of off a Paro, Vidya is able to fit into Parineeta, Irrfan and Tabu are able to play bengali characters in The Namesake. These are just a few examples, there are lots of other examples of iconic Bengali characters played by non bengalis. The right styling and working on nitty grities of the character make it possible to play a character of any region in a believable manner as long as there is not something drastically different in the facial features. Here Byomkesh is a fictional character, there are no pictures so the director can envision him in any way. In the pics of Sushant as byomkesh bakshi, I think he looks quite good and believably bengali for someone of that period.
