Because they don't contain a certain "Khan" or "Kapoor"? Because it isn't one of the "normal" production houses? Because there isn't the same masala entertainment or colorful songs and settings? I heard this years back in a documentary: "Bollywood rather wants to show that part of India that Indians want to see instead of their own harsh, poor, and rough everyday life. The movies give them hope and put a light into their lives." Is it true? That's what I feel is the truth. People prefer the unknown and not what they see everyday in their lives.
I just login in Youtube and this was on my frontpage:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GseAIMlyvI - I know this is a YRF movie but then I came across this trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3xWa-pBtdQ. The title seemed familiar: Children Of War, so I watched it. Even if I don't have much background knowledge about the story, the trailer hit me. I felt it was powerful and had a strong message. A hidden truth that finally is being told? If India doesn't tell it own stories, who will? Historical movies are one of the best genre out there or do Indians don't like historical movies? Or are they only liked when a famous actor is included?
Honestly I am one of those who prefer those traditional Indian/Bollywood movies rather than these western wannabes and senseless comedy and many may say that these kinds of movies as so called "art movies" and instead tries to be foreign types of movies. But I am sure that these Bollywood traditions can be hold in these so called "art movies", too, instead of being seen as foreign. It seems like in India that any film that doesn't follow the traditional Bollywood formula is tagged an "art movie". Why can't there be a variety of different types of films and why can't the different types, the "not-the-normal-types", being accepted?
Being world's lagest film industri we have only like 50 actors (that too one big family), 10 known directors and very few productions houses that are accepted. We mostly only see movies of characters in the age of 20s played by 40s. Why aren't these 40s years old given roles of their own age? Why isn't there made any movies beyond these ages?
I know these discussions have there been many of but just not movies like "Children of War" are not accepted by the viewers neither are they discussed in forums like this of giving any space in awards functions.. - "Children of War" trailer do only have a half milion views in YT while just for an example "Dawaat-e-Ishq" has almost 3 million views. Would it have been different if a famous actor played a role? I think so.
I will finish off with that I am looking forward for movies like: Haider, Mary Kom, Finding Fanny, different and experimental and happy that Bollywood has movies like: Lootera, Barfi, Kai Po Che and so on their package. Maybe they are on their way!
I am happy for the so called "art movies", it makes a change in the always girly movies or action-comedy movies..
